So- Are tariff fees now being applied and charged to buyers on these new 4Runners, or not?

Good question. I have yet to see a 6th Gen on the local lot, to even see the sticker. And everything the local dealer advertises is either "in transit" or already sold.

I’m going to start with a more general answer in that automakers have responded in a variety of ways from announcing no price increases (time limited) to pausing shipments (expecting this to pass) to MSRP hikes but with a healthy dose of wait-and-see.

The most recent article I found puts Toyota in the “wait and see” position as so much around these tariffs have been changing, it’s hard to pick a route forward.

So I would say for you, probably not for now but it won’t necessarily stop a dealer from slapping on whatever they think they can get away with.

Next month, it could be a hike, something random or a tariff drop. Who even knows.

I asked last week when ordering mine and was told that they have no immediate notices of increased prices. I guess we will see if that holds true.

Dealers are making up for it by charging 51K -60K for used 5th Gens with low miles.

Lots of uncertainty about this tarrif topic.
Years ago it was possible to buy a new vehicle in another Country. Then vacation with it putting on miles. Then bring it home as a used vehicle with different tax/duty rates.

I don't know if you could really say a "tariff" increase in cost, but, the MSRP of a 2025 ORP set up like our 2020 ORP is 16,000 higher. 16K in 5 model years is kind of excessive. Maybe some manufacturers gambled on the tariff thing and decided to bump the MSRP, and when if in fact the tariffs were enacted they could lower the MSRP and still make a profit and look good in the process. Just a guess?

Toyota is eating tariffs for now, but as always, if you pick the wrong dealer they’ll be happy to add a “tariff fee” on top of the $1500 fabric protection package.

    Same as ever, buyer beware…

I unlike your post, I do like my $1500 fabric protection, the farts don’t smell as bad, at least the salesman said it’s definitely worth it. Let’s face it, buying a new / used vehicle it’s just a matter of how bad you get screwed. Unless you have an “in” , or your buying a friend/family vehicle, it’s hard not to pay a premium for a in demand vehicle.
Our local Subaru dealer has a lot of over flow of new vehicles , this thing is packed with new Subies , he’s playing the tariff odds

The 2025 prices were set long before the Nov 2024 election, that was all Toyota all the way.

Oh ya, that's what I'm saying. There's a reason Toyota is the world's largest auto manufacture. Plus anticipating these tariffs.

What Toyota did in the 50’s was invent the 5 s system. It took the big three years to adopt the now common practice. Arrogance was there downfall. Unwinding 40 years of a global trade network is going to be a cluster F&@$ at best.

It's not just Toyota with these crazy price increases and it's not the Tariffs. My new 2025 ProMaster 2500 High Roof work van went up 20K since 2021 when I bought my last one, same model, more electronics.

If buyers are tripping over themselves to get into debt to rotate into new vehicles every few years, why wouldn't corporations take the money? Once the prices went up and people didn't show any signs of slowing down buying new cars, car makers would be stupid to lower prices.

Americans have to pick which reality they live, (1) in which average car transaction price being over 50k is okay and it's all normal that 4R prices are exceeding 75k regularly, or (2) endlessly complain about tariffs meanwhile 23k US made Corollas collect dust on dealer lots while people beat down Toyota's door to buy 60-75k 4Rs just to go to Costco or to commute to work.

The price point on the supply-demand curve only work on elastic goods. if the demand is inelastic then it is in car makers' best interest to keep raising prices until they find the price at which demand drops, until then it is just good business.
