Tab on bumper cover broke

A tab that "clicks in" to secure the bumper cover broke. Everything is fine with the bumper cover but on the passenger side it just pops out a little bit. Enough to annoy me. Can the tab be fixed on the bumper cover ? I am 100% certain the tab piece on the bumper cover broke off.

 

Not sure on fixing the tab but what about a healthy dose of 3M trim tape on the inside ?

How'd you confirm it's broken? Did you have to remove the bumper cover for some reason?

 

Yes, I removed it as a person on a bicycle hit right there.

 

This is a known issue. There's a TSB for it but even the fix often doesn't fix it completely and eventually fails entirely. Sorry you're having this problem.

Several mentions of this issue here. You might find a couple DIY solutions if you search around but it really does seem to be a tough one to resolve.

I am not saying no to your suggestion because id really like that BUT i dont control the checkbook. I really like that bumper.

 

If you have the broken piece of the tab, combine super glue with baking soda to glue it back on. It'll be way stronger than it was originally.

Sure does, especially when you add the baking soda. You could also use epoxy...

When you do, could you take a closeup photo of the body clip(s) under the headlight that the edge of the bumper cover clips onto?

I’ve always thought the opposite. Superglue has always worked for me on a variety of plastics. I’ve never thought about it to fix the the popped out bumper cover that so many of have on the 4runner, but that might be the easiest and best way to do it if your clip isn’t broken. The idea to use superglue to to fix a broken clip is also a good one!

 

Yes I will but I’m in Florida now. Won’t do it until I get back home in January
