Hey everyone. When I met my wife in '98 she had a '90 SR5. A couple of years later we bought a new Y2K SR5. Both were equipped with a third pedal for the 5 speed. We don't do much in the way of offroad driving but we do a fair amount of back country camping and exploring the western US. We lost the '90 when a tow truck rear-ended me at a stoplight. I was fine but it was totaled. I've been using the Y2K as my winter daily driver and the wife uses it for errands. We have a few other cars too so they share the load depending on need.

This last winter the 2016 Sequoia was my daily because the Y2K couldn't have the clutch replaced. As most of you know frame rot is an issue in some regions of the world. We didn't have the foresight to protect the frame when we bought it and sadly, even with portions of the frame repaired, it's unrepairable in its current state. Oh, and it has less than 170,000 miles.

After periodically searching for a 3rd generation with a manual or a donor worthy of the effort, I found the '98 locally. Stumbled on it actually. Wednesday I was coming back from golfing with friends an hour north of home and saw it at a farm with a "For Sale/$3100" sign on it. The next day we had the frame and the rest of it inspected by our local 4x4 shop and later that day we bought it. It has 330,000 miles on what we think is the original motor. The sun roof has a drip, the brakes are like a marshmallow, and the clear coat is peeling significantly.

I'd like to have the swap and other work done by Thanksgiving. What are we having done?
-Repair minor rust on the lower rear passenger door and clean up the clear coat.
    -Rebuild the sun roof.
-Swap the interior from the Y2K into the '98.
-Install a new audio system with a back-up camera.
-Swap the 5 speed, with a the new clutch, into the '98 along with the locking rear diff.
-Assess the motor in the '98 and maybe swap the Y2K's motor into the '98.

Would less money have been spent on buying a complete 3rd gen with a manual? Maybe. We'd still have to do something with the Y2K.

At some point we'll have parts for sale that we don't need. Anyone that's local will be welcome to bring their tools and scavenge what's left or take the whole thing away. I'll post occasional updates during the swap process.

I don't know if I'll put much of a lift on it. I've never had clearance issues with the old '90 or the Y2K even when loaded with bikes and camping equipment.

    Anyway, hello again.

The shifters I love so much. Yes, that's a cassette adaptor for the old iPod.

My wife's brother's 4Runner in Las Vegas. It's his first. I haven't seen it yet.
