Seeing as my fiancé is the mechanic for our two 3rd gen runners, and both are due for new suspension replacements, I'm looking to get him some tools to make repairs / upgrades easier (and less frustrating with stubborn ball joints.)

Can you guys recommend and "must have" tools that have made your lives easier when working on suspensions?

Seeing as your fiancé is a mechanic, he should have most of the tools needed to perform the work. Suspension work doesn't really require special tools, just your normal, daily rachets, sockets, extensions, pliers and screw drivers. Hard to just give a general recommendation on what specifically is needed but I'd venture and say maybe this some pry bars and maybe some good extended, extra long ratcheting wrench set? Or if he doesn't already have it, Milwaukee M18 FUEL 18V Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 1/2 in. Impact Wrench with Friction Ring Kit With Two 5.0 Ah Batteries 2767-22 - The Home Depot. I love this thing. It gets used the most out of all the tools I have. My air compressor has not been used in over 5+ years.

i mean to say hes our dedicated mechanic, not a proffesional one, but worked on his own toyota for years now. Ive seen him replace the parts years ago, and it seemed a bit much with only the basic tools you mentioned. im hoping to add to his tool box. Just wondering of theres any bushing tools that might help. thank you for those recommendations!

I'd start with the Milwaukee power tool. It will serve him well for many years to come.

I would also like to add whatever appropriate size 1/2" socket for your front axle nuts. If you ever have to go further that just removing the wheels, brakes, coilovers, or LCA youll need that socket. Also, related, a 1/2" torque wrench that goes higher than 150ft-lb.
