    Hello,

I am thinking of buying front suspension struts and upper control arms. I use the car for work involving frequent off road driving in long trips to remote rural areas and starting to hear all kinds of subtle noises similar to what you would expect in leaky shock absorbers and upper control arm bolt joint knocks.

Takes offs from not too old 4Runners is my first choice budget wise. I would like to check please:
    1. Whether stock suspension set for TDR off-road (2022) is different SR5 and other models(except of course TRD PRO)?
    2. And if so, what are the specific part numbers I should be looking for?

    thanks,
    M

Too many..... Performance: • Magnusum Supercharger • Gibson exhaust with dual black tip • Pedal Commander * PowerBrakes • Suspension – Old Man Emu BP-51 front and back with Medium load coils • Tires: AT3 Faulken Wildpeak – 285/70/17 • Wheels: Relations Race Wheels, RR7-H with -12 offset • Full roof rack and ladder by Westcott Design (removed the stock Yakima basket) • Molle storage panels by Rago fabrication • Front light brackets by Rago • Illuminator light bracket by Rago (roof rack location) Lights • Morimoto front and back with sequential signals • Morimoto fog lights and side mirrors with sequential signals • 40” Baja design light bar for roof rack • 20” S8 Baja design driving combo (winch location) • Squadron sport baja design ditch lights • S2 Chase lights by baja designs (mounted on roof) In the bay: • Odyssey 34-PC Battery • SDQH Aluminum billet battery terminals and bracket • Switch Pro 9100 with aluminum tray • Anytime front and back camera • ARB twin compressor Recovery & Protection: • Smittybilt X20 synthetic rope winch • Factor 55 fairlead and flatlink • Southern Style Off-road (SSO) low profile bumper • SSO stage 2 high clearance wings • Weekend warrior recovery kit by treaty oak • RCI – skid plates – entire vehicle + catalytic converter protection wings Interior: • Nano Ceramic IR – Avery Dennison Window tint – all windows • Several phone mounts • Upgraded Rear Hatch lift gate struts (ladder is heavy) • Boom blaster horn switch (featuring La cucaracha)
The only system I recommend as a take-off is the suspension of the TRD-pro. Go to marketplace and i am sure someone will be putting one out there. There might be some deals on fox or other brands but I would be skeptical if they have too many miles. Good luck!

Thanks ChessGuy. My car is TRD off Road 2022 model and I thought maintaining the same suspension set up which I find okay. I am just looking part numbers that I should be looking to make sure that I can expand my search beyond part numbers on my car currently in case the other (non-TRD PRO) models have the same struts but with different numbers.

I do not know much about performance of the Fox tuned stock shocks on TRD Pro but think they are pricey even used.
Is there a specific reason why you would think I should consider?

Suspension components are going to make noises on and offroad. There's no way around that. Are you sure your shocks are already blown? Are they leaking any oil? I doubt there's anything wrong with your UCA. Probably no need to mess with that or replace it on a stock '22. That being said, the best UCA for a stock '22 is a stock UCA.

Your OffRoad's stock suspension components are the same as an SR5 so they are interchangeable. I agree that the Pro suspension is too pricey......even for used, but it will fit. Limiteds have a different suspension system and you wouldn't want to put those on your truck.

If you're going offroad a lot, you might want to consider a more robust shock than OEM. I know you said you like the stock ride and that is going to be impossible to replace with any other shock, but I will say that Eibach makes a replacement shock that will handle a bit more punishment without making the ride harsh.

Replace the fronts with these from Eibach Part #: E60-82-071-02-10 and the rear with these Part #: E60-82-008-02-01 and I think you will still enjoy the ride and have better offroad performance than OEM.

Hi Moh, I focused on your statement of price which is the right thing to do because choices here are endless and very pricey. However, you want to be careful with using used parts or as you mentioned "take-offs" from older 4R because this is more or less saying, "let me use some old tires from a 4R that have some thread left and see how it goes", you know eventually you have to buy new tires. So you are best off saving a little more and just do the Pay Once, cry Once thing :spending:.

Why I mentioned the TRD FOX system, if you find them used and relatively new, I would go for these because it will give you OEM confidence since these were designed/tuned for a 4R trim, they are usually capable and most importanly the sellers of this system will part from them for a lower amount and this will fit your goal (I think) of low price. Your truck is probably fine with stock OEM suspension parts, Nimby gave you great advice, best replacement parts for your unit are OEM and that's it. If you want to try an upgrade an overall suspension system, you would want to stick with one brand for the entire front and back, that is, you don't want to put Eibach in the front and Bilstein in the back and so on mixing brands, you could in reality, but I would avoid this if at all possible. Your UCA's are ok for as long as you stick with your stock tires, which brings me to my next advice :gossip:, I would worry more about having the right tires FIRST, than messing with suspension components. Tires IMO are more important than getting shocks, UCA's etc, get that right first and then design an overall front/back suspension system that fits your needs and budget. Look at the starter kits by Bilstein (6112) on the different websites - this for example is a very common kit that I used 5 yrs ago for a little while - it goes for $1100 - you can't beat that IMO. Go to shocksurplus or other places and compare options and fits. Good luck!

    Thank you very much Nimby
Thanks you for the great suggestions Nimby. I’ll definitely consider the Eibach.

    No problem.

You can re-use your stock coils with these shocks to help keep the cost down. This will help retain a ride closer to stock as well.
