Just brought home my new 22 TRD Off Road Premium and decided to have a 1” lift installed via Cornfed spacers. Also had some new Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT tires (265/70/17)installed, followed by an alignment. Love the way it looks, but have some slight rubbing at full lock in reverse. Wheels are factory and tires are stock size, so how can I be rubbing? Could the alignment be causing it to rub even if within spec? Not happy with the stealership, either. First off, they quoted me $560 just to install the spacers and then added another $80 for adjusting the collision impact programming without my permission. All 4 of my newly mounted tires were set at different psi, ranging from 32 to 38. Lastly, my runner had exactly 84 miles when I dropped it off and 107 when I picked it up, which I thought was a little much for a quick test ride. They also had it from 9:30 am and called me at 3:30 pm to say they just finished. The rear floor mats were dirty when I picked it up, so they obviously had a group of people riding in it.

You have the TRD Pro style wheels so you have less offset and also the Baja Boss ATs are a bit taller than most 265/70-17 tires so the chances of rubbing goes up. I think it was pretty good to have the TSS system adjusted for the lift but they should have told you before hand. The price seems close to what my dealership quoted with an alignment.

Thanks for the reply. Even with the offset difference of the TRD Pro wheels, I was not even imagining a rubbing issue with any 265/7017 sized tire. Looks like it’s catching on the inside of the fender liner. Not the end of the world, just not thrilled about having to trim without even going up a tire size.

welcome and nice looking 4runner. how do you like those tires so far? I'm thinking of getting a set in 255/85/17 to put on my stock wheels for winter.

as for your rubbing, is it on the front of the wheel well? if so, you can easily just cut a bit of the bumper off and push the fender liner forward. the Pro has this done at the port to clear the lower offset wheels.

To be honest, the new tires have only been on a few days, but they look nice and are more quiet than the Ridge Grapplers I ran on my ‘18 4Runner. They are also not an LT rated tire, which contributes to the comfortable ride. Yup, it’s rubbing on the front, so I will take your advice and try pushing forward the fender liner.

This threw me off as your title says MT. The Baja Boss MT isn't even available in stock size. :D

The varied tire pressure and 23 miles of test driving doesn't give me much confidence in your dealer.

What are your alignment specs? They should have given you a sheet showing the before/after.

You can just push the fender liner forward instead of trimming it. Super easy mod.

I just pushed in the fender liner and trimmed some of the bumper and now I am all good. Except the dealer, they still suck and I won’t be going back there.

Any thoughts on the Baja Boss at? It’s on my short list for new tires, but very few people seem to have actual experience, especially in the stock size.

There's a little feedback in here:

They look really good! I'm strongly considering a set when one of my sets of tires wears out.

Thanks TBG. That actually was really helpful. It’s great to see the differences between the xl and E rated tires. I’m glad to see the thinner side biters on the xl load tires as it would only add weight for people who aren’t likely to be airing down much.

Looks great! What did you use to trim the bumper and approximately how much was taken off? I’m getting my lift and wheels/tires installed on Monday and expecting to have to do the same.

Hi! I’m adding in on the dealer issue. Imo, any tech driving a vehicle for that many miles is abnormal and tells me they were presumably driving the vehicle for other reasons. This being said I suggest calling Toyota corporate for them to address.

Note, the default answer from Toyota is “dealers are independently owner” so know that’s coming. Just tell toyota “that’s nice to hear but they are selling your products using your name” and they should shut up.

However, Toyota has access to facts customers do not and the dealer should notate the fact the customer involves corporate and act accordingly.

Btw, your truck looks beautiful and I hope you enjoy!!

So far, I am loving the Baja Boss ATs. I do have the slight steering wheel shake around 55 mph, but it is only doing it some days. Since I have zero trust for my dealership, I am not even going to bother taking it back to them for a rebalance. The tires themselves are no louder at this point (just hit 1,000 miles) than the factory Bridgestones. I have not yet been off road or in snow, so I can only comment on them having good on road manners.

Thank you for the number, I may give Toyota a call this weekend. Never been more disappointed in a dealership experience. I just noticed that I have several scratches on my hood that I can only assume were also caused by the dealership. Looks like a box or something was slid across the hood.

Anyway, here is another picture after getting detailed where you can see the tires just a little bit better.

Also, couldn't be happier with the stance after adding the 1" front spacers.

    Nice ride Smnst.

Thanks so much for the updates and please keep them coming. These tires are still fairly new to the market and there don't seem to be a lot of experienced reviews out there, especially of the standard load stock size tires.

    Thanks again Smnst.
