Hey long time lurker and first time poster here. Having some issues with my 05 V8 4runner. Recently did my routine oil and tire rotate and the following day I started to experience a sputter and audio cutting out or becoming very static on acceleration. I do have an aftermarket radio and I'm able to get the audio to come back on by clicking around the radio. No CEL, checked all ground wires and gave them a cleaning, changed out fuses for radio. My next guess was to check and change spark plugs. Was hoping someone in here has had experience with this situation and can help out!

    Thanks in advance!

Is yours a limited or no? ie. you could have touched something to do with the amp for the JBL system if so. Otherwise are you using an aftermarket amp? Mine has occasionally flickered on and off and while its off the "sound" of driving and acceleration comes through the speakers, as the 'active' ground is no longer working.

Sound familiar or maybe something else? Able to grab a video or sound bite of it?

Sports Edition and no aftermarket amp. Dont believe I touched anything to do with the amp but will double check this evening, when the sound is off I dont get any sound of driving/acceleration through the speakers. Will also attempt to get a video of this happening after work.

Had the same problem on an ‘89 TFR and it was just a loose ground wire.

    Old I know.

Well checked all ground wires and cleaned them as well, no fix. Started checking for ANY loose wires or clips. Found 8 loose connections on all coil packs, very weird and thought this would have been causing misfires. Anyway sputter seems to have gone away but radio still cuts out or goes a to a bit of static while accelerating sometimes, this is not consistent in anyway. Going to go ahead and take the radio out and check for anything loose on the unit itself.

Good to know about the loose connections on the coil packs though. My ‘02 has a case of the sputters after it warms up that I’ve been chasing down.

Maybe I’ll take my own advice!
