    Is this a gopher snake?
He was inspecting my rat trap.
Snap trap was closed, so didn’t hurt him.
He was kind of stuck in there, but wrapped himself around a nearby object to pull himself out.

If you’re in or near California check out californiaherps.

Click on the Photo Index and Range Map to help you ID it.

Some pine snakes which are endangered look a little yellow farther south that’s why I asked location.

What’s your guess for snake ID?

Here’s another tip to aid in plant and animal identification from photos. The phone app Seek by iNaturalist. Sometimes it doesn’t recognize a photo and wants more views of the item, but it usually works really well. You take a photo in the field in real time or submit a picture from your photo roll and the app IDs it and gives you more info on its. Give it a try.

    No thanks!

I don’t like something with no legs that can move that fast. Nope! Nah!

thank you for the californiaherps Website.
I think it’s a Pacific gopher snake, but wouldn’t stake my life on it.
I don’t have enough experience to be confident with ID.

Gopher snake would be my guess too. They’re pretty common around here and get pretty long.

I had two Albino Gophers. My friend with cystic fibrosis got them. They had reds, yellows, and were very docile.

Love may be in the air but disappointment lies ahead. I saw this big ol' black snake this morning when turning on the irrigation system.
