hey all, I have a 2016 Toyota 4Runner with the limited package (it has the smart key/push to start.)
One thing that bugs me is the rear door handles don’t have unlock or lock grip so if I have passengers I literally have to open the driver door first and unlock the doors that way.
I looked at the handles and they look the same for both the front and the rear. I’m wondering if it would be possible to install the door handles and wire them up somehow? Ideally I would like it like this:
If I put my hand on the driver door, only the driver door unlocks but if I put my hand on any other door, all doors unlock/ lock
    Any suggestions? Tia!

Go to dealer and have them setup that either the driver or front passenger when u put your hand on the handle it unlocks all doors.. you dont have to open the door

I think you missed what I wanted to achieve.
I’ll clarify just to clear up a little sorry.
If I put my hand on the driver door I ONLY want the driver door to unlock not the other doors. But if I put my hand on any other door than the driver then I would want all doors to unlock. I figured that the only way to do this would be to put the smart handle on both rear doors and I was wondering if this would be possible.

Well, it unlocks all doors from the passenger side... and there are buttons on the fob as well, but only the front doors and hatch respond to the keyless entry

Are you looking to build out the smart handles on the back? I just open the front door, scold my kids for trying to open the back doors too quickly, then press unlock (and usually I scold them again for good measure... )

I just walk up and grab the front door handle on my way to open the rear door and out my son in the child seat. You don’t need to open the door, just touch the handle walking by.

Maybe I am missing something but, if you press the unlock fob button twice, all the doors unlock.

yes that would work too. but i believe the OP is trying to open the rear doors without first opening the front doors by touching the front handles or the key fob. i know in my bmw and lexus, i can open/lock the doors from any door handle.
