At 41,000 miles now. My 4x4 shift lever is now exhibiting an annoying buzz/rattle/driving me fing nuts noise.
It varies with engine rev. Normally at cruising.

anyone had this and figured out what exactly it is and more importantly how to make it stop besides
    1) keeping a hand on it
    2) putting a bungee on it to side load it
    3) ignore it. Not possible
    4) turn the radio up louder suggestion. So sometimes I drive with no audio on. Why? Because after a day of hustle bustle and people being annoying I just need some peace and quiet on my 1 hour drive home to destress

    TIA folks

Like the round disc with the shift pattern?

Yes. Most likely a tab is broken. You can glue it back or just get a different one

I just had this crop up today. That is to say, I just found the source of the buzz today. If I unscrew and remove the knob and then shake it I can hear something rattling inside.

Any idea how to do that? I tried with a panel removal tool, but stopped for fear of damaging the disk.

Or the one shown at the bottom of this page. JGR Billet Aluminum. I have it and it looks nice and is functional.

Never tried because I went with Ellis knobs.

Thanks all— finally got around to digging into this tonight. So I pried the cap off and sure enough there was a broke. Tab in there. Dumped her out, put in some gel superglue, aligned the cap the way it was and put it in a clamp to dry over night.

Anyone considering this—- prying it off was no big deal. I had a super thin metal blade from a trim tool removal kit and I pressed down on the rubber and worked the edge up under the plastic and the Twisted the tool and it started to free up. Removed rest by hand, there are two spots of a yellowish white flexible adhesive that had one spot trying to hold on to it. Just kept pulling and it popped free easy peesy. Dumped out the little plastic tab that was in the pocket, apples glue and clamped for an overnight dry.
