Shift knob lower profile replacement... ang suggestions

Looking to replace the gear shift knob with something lower/shorter profile. Anyone seen any?

Not really.. the actual "stick" that the knob screws to is quite tall itself. To make it much shorter, you'd have to cut some threads off, or cut them all off and re-thread.

That said, at first I also wanted a shorter one.. but now I'm glad mine is where it's at. It's a good height/distance for when your arm is using the armrest in the center.. and also easy to find quickly, if needed, when wheeling.

 

Yeah, Noticed that it's the lever not the knob. I keep knocking it around switching from 2h to 4h, or reaching for my phone in the empty slot.
Must be a way with chopping the lever down.

 

I m uaing these in black. TC knob is m12x1.25 so have ordered a threaded insert from mcmaster will have to drill the ball and add the insert then i can have matching knobs for both. Thinking of chopping of the shifter lever it is too tall.

 

I just need it to be less girthy. I wear size L nitrile gloves.. still find it not natural to wrap my hand around it

 

I were a M glove. But I found the same. Doesn't come natural for me wrapping my hand around. I like it better grabbing the shifter from the top. I switched to this, which works well for me. Although this won't meet one of your goals to make things shorter.

 

Just remove the whole handle, it will be shorter and super thin. May want to put a nut on the threads though.

That or get an old school T shifter knob.

I used a FJ Cruiser OEM shift knob and cut a small section from the middle for clear the shifter gate.

 

What 4x4 shift knob is that?

 

Ellis Precision billet aluminum. I have the same set of shift handles. They do tend to be cold in the winter & pretty warm in the summer.

 

Yes, agree with the warm and cold. But for me, it was a small price to pay for cool looks. LOL

 

Metal shift knobs are a no go in Texas... So hot in the summer you won't be able to shift

Agree with Ellis. Don't care about the hot or cold. Use a napkin if you want to hold it that long. Love mine. Solid.

I have something similar and aside from drilling the hole slightly deeper, I wouldn't touch a thing. I'm not 100% on the looks but it's so damn comfortable at stock height if you are like me and rest your elbow on the armrest.
