Hello all, my first post here, thanks for the add.

I have a 2017 Limited, and recently the vehicle started shaking whenever Im between 25-40 mph. It feels like its coming from the rear, never the front. It only does it when you are slowly accelerating, if you get into it a little bit it doesnt do it. And it doesnt do it if you are coasting. Ive had the wheels checked and they are balanced and no damages. Also had the U-joint checked and its in very good condition. One guy said he thought it could be a transmission issue, another said possible a bearing or a stabilizer issue. Any thoughts?

Note: This 4Runner has 172k miles on it already, very extensive highway miles and all put on it in an 18 month period. Its been retired from work and is now just my drive-around-town vehicle.

Mine shakes from the rear end as well. Only seems to happen when I'm playing hip hop though

172K miles on it then IMO the ujoints are a problem.. I had your problem on my GM truck @160K miles . the ujoint was binding at 60MPH because of the truck lifting up do to the wind resistance. I dropped the axle and I found that the ujoint was rusted and could not move it.

ON our 4runners you have to grease the ujoints every oil change @7-10K miles. also I do tire rotations also. I use lithium based grease and pump slowly so all the old grease comes out then I clean up the grease so it does not fly off the axle..
when I replaced my GM truck ujoints I now can grease the ujoint every oil change and the truck has no vibs very smooth 2000 truck. hi miles..

transmission fluid must be changed on your runner @120K miles.. needs a fluid complete transfer procedure/pan drop/screen clean ..
    good luck ..

This is in reply to the shaking in the rear of your limited. I have the same problem and I'm wondering if you got a resolution. Mine vibrates mostly up a slight incline at low speeds between 25 and 40. Also seems to happen on smooth pavement generally leaning to the left. I've taken it to a mechanic who replaced the U joints and they destroyed tdestroyed the drive shaft somehow so they replace that for me and $1700 later I'm still having problems. Thinking about just driving this pig until it blows.

Could it be an ABS issue? Did you check for codes?

Any history of scheduled maintanance? If it has never had transmission fluid changed, do your research before swapping the fluid. I’ve read that flushes can be bad for marginal transmissions that have never had fluid drains before. If it’s a worn transmission, fresh complete oil exchange can cause slipping of the clutches from what I have heard. I think even the car care nut recommends drain and refill (vs a flush) for high mileage transmissions.

Any preventive Maintainance that is due would be a good place to start if it hasnt been done. It would eliminate those variables.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions, what a great forum!
Mechanic checked for codes, and nothing found.
As far as the maintenance, I've been up to snuff on all of it. Original owner, 96,000 miles.

I took a chance with Shudder Fixx, some over the counter tranny cough syrup, 2 ounces for $10. Cracked the trans fill plug(WS)and was surprised no fluid seeped out? After adding snake oil I drove it about 10 miles. It seems to have helped some but still feel a bit of a shudder. Its definitely harder to replicate the vibration after the snake oil.

Torque converter? I have no clue and I'm outta bread. Gonna chance it through Death Valley tomorrow night with a packed load.
