Still trying to figure out all of the features of my new 4Runner and can't find where the tire pressure display is.

Every one of my new or used vehicles the past 12 years has had TPMS with a numerical display showing the tire pressure for each tire.

I can't figure out how to get it to show on the 4Runner.

Googled it and apparently they only have a light that comes on if the pressure is too low???

    That can't be.

Aftermarket stereo like kenwood will show it. I imagine other devices will. Just not sure which ones

I traded in a 15yr old GMC Yukon that showed the tire pressure in each tire.

    This is ridiculous .

Does it also have drum brakes?

Is there a knob for the choke?

    Seriously, WTH Toyota??

Ahhh you want an indirect system that shows the pressure in each tire? You have a direct system which alerts if one tire is a few psi off....prob cheaper maybe the 2020 has it?

This is one of the new features on the 2020 and one of the big reasons I held out and am waiting to grab a 2020. It is something they should have had on their best 4WD Truck 10 + years ago.

Yeah. My 1997 Suburban showed the tire pressure in each tire and had a light come on if the pressure got too low.

I had no idea that any car makers weren't doing this.

    It's very disappointing.

I remember the old days before TPMS. When you actually had to look at your tires to see if they were low. Even my 05 Tacoma doesn't have TPMS.

Wow, some people just need something to complain about. I actually enjoy using a gauge to tell me my pressures and adjusting accordingly. I don’t need electronics to tell me something I should be doing as a grown man anyway.

It's in there. (2018 OR) Along with a bunch of other neat info. I use to run a obdii dongle to tablet, then, got a aftermarket HU to see/read it.
    20190926_073020.jpg 20190926_073036.jpg 20190926_073050.jpg

I was thinking about glassing a tablet in place of the oem unit, then, just got a double din that filled my wants. The obdii dongle was like 11 bucks. Software was free, and it worked good, but, just went the easier, and more expensive route.

I'd prefer not to have TPMS. Thanks, Ford/Firestone. I'm stunned the '97 Burb had it, my '96 Yukon didn't. Manufacturers don't tend to make tech available in non-halo cars until mandated, and TPMS was not widespread in the '90s

Yeah the great thing about no tpms is that its easy to swap mounted tires. No sensors to worry about. No shop to deal with.

Had Camaros, Jeeps, and a Model A. None had TPMS in the 90s and prior. Never once had a tire blowout or fail. Add air in the fall, remove air in the spring. Use tire pressure guage. Roll on.

Planning on buying a 1960s Chevy C10 in the future. And glad I know how to handle a vehicle without TPMS.

I'm not sticking up for the original poster or not but I think some of you are missing the point. I think the point is in 2019 and on a 40,000 vehicle lots of people sort of expect something like that now-a-days specially with technology taking over everything else. How many of you still own a television that you must actually get up from your couch to change the channel every five minutes? Couldn't pay me to do that anymore. Just remember I've got no dog in this fight don't start dumping on me please. :hattip:

    Fanboys are curious things

They are so emotionally invested in a product or brand that they view any slight of that product or brand as a personal attack on them and their honor.

Even if the flaw being pointed out is absolutely correct and legitimate.

Fanboys will respond with indignation, personal insults, and denial of facts and reality.

It's becoming a larger and larger problem in internet forums for vehicles, firearms, cameras, UTVs, heck any consumer product.

I don't know what the root psychological causes of the condition are; not hugged enough as a kid? Wasn't allowed to have a puppy? I don't know.

But I do know that being fanboy is not a good thing. It's not mentally healthy.

Don't be a fanboy. Accept reality and facts and stop attacking those that point out reality.

I don't really give a crap either way but the reality is maybe you should of done more research if this was such a big deal?

Guess I'm a fanboy for that.

It's not a big deal. It's just very surprising that feature important to those who go off-road frequently and value their tire's health is not on a vehicle designed for those folks.

Like I said, it's been on every SUV and pick up I've had the past decade.

Yes, I can go out and check tire pressures with a tire gauge manually every now and then, like I did in the 90's.

    It's just surprising is all.

Manbun mentality is even worse than any fanboys. Put on your big boy pants and buy a tire pressure gauge. Lol

When you get to be older after decades of manual labor, the idea of going out in -0 weather and bending over to check tire pressures won't seem so laughable.

To be honest if you dont go offroad and use 4 wheel drive you shouldn't buy a 4runner. A car ute like a rav4 or highlander would be better. The 4runner is a dinosaur for offroadi use.

The 4Runner is not the most technologically current vehicle, I'd say most would agree on that. I guess it just depends on what features you're willing to compromise on. It's basically a ten year old new vehicle.

Just saying... I had more tech in my Tacomas than my 4runner. Both my 2016 and 2017 tacomas had full TPMS readouts. Was also more customization and had a way better dash screen. I had absolutely not a single problem with my tacomas transmissions either, in any of em.

The 2019 4runner drives smoother, and its more refined in some ways... But its definitely NOT more technologically advanced than a 3rd gen tacoma.

The lack of TPMS readout is my number 1 issue with my 4runner.... Which means i have no REAL complaints. I love the T4R. Its a PITA to have to check all the tire pressures in this day and age, but id much rather that be my main issue than have drivability problems.

Let me get this straight, you bought a car with full knowledge of the features as well as features it didn't have, but now you're coming on here to complain about a feature to a group of enthusiast?

What kind of logic is this? In what world does this even make sense?

If TPMS read out is #1 problem I'd say the 4R is pretty well off then.

The 4 Runner may be behind the curve when it comes to whistles and bells, but it’ll get you home from the boonies every time. Isn’t that the main reason we buy these things?
