I’m in the market for sliders to protect my rocker panels but have sone questions.

Do they all protect your sides from door dings too?

I’m leaning towards BudBuilt or CBI. They look wider than most.

Has anyone bought from a local fabricator in SoCal? The shipping is a killer.

Depends. If the doors on the vehicles next to you are lower than the sliders at there furthest point out, then yes. If not, then no.

Many vehicles, like the 4Runner have the wheel arches cut into their rear doors. They will hit your body well before the sliders can protect from them.

For maximum chances of protection, buy ones with the kickout. Personally, I try to park far enough out that I dont have any parking neighbors.

Yes. From vehicles whose doors are lower than the sliders, which is most sedans & SUVs. Full size trucks, etc., not so much.

I can't think of any cars back door can be stopped by rock sliders other than sliding doors of mini vans.

Back door are the ones kids open wide and fast for freedom :D or parents open wide to put rear facing child seats with infants or small kids to thier front facing child seats.

My wife loves to pick at me (well she isn't the one who will be dealong with that ding) when I go scouting for a good parking spot, preferrable is a curb spot and I get real close to the curb to give the other guy plenty of room to swing their door. If it is dark, under a lamp. Too paranoid I know.

Definitely can help against lower vehicles like cars. Also how you park.

Fortunately, (and after many years of marriage) my wife knows this is the norm. If it's going to bother her on a given outing, I give her the option of being dropped off while I go look for my ideal spot. Its about 50/50 if she takes me up on the offer. More often than not, it comes down to what shoes she is wearing and if it's raining.

Lower vehicles yes but not from something taller. I had someone in a Suburban park really close and "rest" their door edge on my flair but they got in causing a sawing motion on my paint. I had moved way over too since the spot was compact so I was against a pillar but they didn't even give me the courtesy.

They only protect your doors from door dings if the offending door hit’s the slider first. If the offending hit’s your door first, then no. :p

The only way to tell if another door will hit your slider first, is to physically verify the shape of the offending door edge, kinda look real hard and estimate the geometry, then ask the owner of that door to swing it open against your 4runner. Are you feelin lucky???:D:D:D

edit: i just noticed your user name is lucky haha

I have personally verified the front doors of a stock 2018 Highlander will not hit the sliders first on my lifted 4runner. It’s not even close.

You can get door moldings fro 4runners that should protect against door dings

Bought mine from a local manufacturer in SoCal for a fraction of the price of “name brand” ones… don’t even give them your business . Keep it local to save on shipping and it’s honestly cooler to have “garage welded” custom ones.. just check offer up many people making them to your specs wanted.

Care to share where you got yours from? I saw some on FB marketplace and IG and contacted one but he hasn’t replied. I’d rather buy local
