Scam??

I received in USPS today a Post card & A letter about coverage of my 2023 Toyota 2023
Motor Vehicle Notification
Bunch of letters. PH # 1-888-535-0247 for Immediate Responses on Post card, Then Letter states bunch of BS that my coverage will end 13-Mar-2026. The vehicle was purchased 20-Nov-23. Freakin Scammers!!

 

I just called there . When I told him had 12,XXX on my 2023 h was taken back. Didn't sound like scam center, didn't talk long enough to confirm. Anyone else get this??

 

Not that exact one, but similar. Sad thing is that some people actually fall for it.

 

Only took a few seconds for a quick search on the ph#, 1 yo scam!

 

Unfortunately you just confirmed your phone number with scammers by calling them. Be prepared for more and better targeted scams.

It sounds like an extended warranty company.

 

Get an Android phone. Put the people you want talk with in your contact list. Go to the Do not Disturb settings and turn it on, "until I turn it off". Allow "Contacts" to ring through.

Now any calls that are not contacts go straight to voice mail.

Legitimate callers from non contacts will leave a voice mail. Scammers and telemarketers seldom do. Add those numbers to your "blocked" list. Identify computer calls because they will be partial voice mails that start in the middle of their spiel. Block them too.

It won't stop everything but it will be a good indicator of legit vs. spam calls.

Oh, and remember, every time you register your vehicle, renew your license or have a state inspection the STATE sells your info... Nice, huh?

 

It sounds like an advertisement to sell mechanical repair insurance (which these companies like to call “extended warranties”). They probably guess on your purchase date based on public data.

They write it vague and with official-sounding language, but technically speaking they are correct that your three year warranty will be expiring soon.

Doesn’t matter though, I wouldn’t buy extra mechanical breakdown insurance anyway, especially from a random company. Even if it’s a legit company, the insurance terms probably suck.

 

Look for the very fine print indicating solicitation. Groups are good at mimicking forms/sites to get additional information.

Pretty sure scammers love AI now. They can use it to search millions of data points in a very short period of time for more potential targets.

 

Yeah at the very bottom last sentence states "US Automotive Protection Services is not affiliated with any auto dealer or manufacturer" I told him I purchased it 20-Nov-2023 & it's not 3 yrs old & have 12xxx miles on it. I used my land line & I get all kinds of BS calls that I either let go or hit answer buttom & End buttom. Yes have a land line because my Verizon cell connection is not very good & drops calls just sitting still.

 

I received one of those similarly worded threats on my vehicle coverage last week. It’s an occasional thing for us at the house and it was promptly disposed of in the shredder. If you save the monthly amount you’re paying for the warranty over a short period you’ll have a nice nest egg and not have to deal with some company that is excellent for denying coverage.

 

I use all bills & stuff like this for fire starter in fireplace

 

I get these all the time for cars I dont even have anymore.

 

This is the 1st one I ever got. Now I do get from dealer asking if I want to trade an older vehicle that I already traded from time to time.

 

ALL "mail" I find in my snail mail box that doesn't have First Class postage, stamped or metered, goes immediately in the trash, unopened.

It's all junk mail. Been doing that for 40 years. Haven't missed anything important yet...

 

Some scams actually put a smile on my face. Like the emails I occasionally get from "Social Security Administration?" ...where they literally put a question mark at the end of the title...like they aren't even sure if they are the social security administration.

 

Today I got a text that I failed to pay a toll, yada, yada, and that failing to submit payment through the provided link would lead to "serious consequences" etc. There are no toll roads or highways in NM, and I haven't been out of the state for a couple of years...
