Recently bought a 1997 4Runner with a good amount of rust (that’s on me). Recently had a part of the chassis snap. I got quoted to get it welded & I really don’t mind putting money into as long I know it’ll eventually be fixed. Is there anything I can do to hopefully prevent this happened again? Or is the vehicle too far gone? Would love to hear different options and maybe pricing if possible.

Post more pics, if there is similar rust all around it, especially by the passanger side AC drip side, either swap whole frame or dump the truck.

You can weld all you want, it won't help or stop already rusted areas failing apart. You can do frame swap for 2-3K probably, then have it coated with Fluid film or woolwax and enjoy your 4runner.

Also, check brake lines, on my 4runner brake line ruptured by rust and corrosion, so it is very dangerous.

From the broken off piece in photo , it seems rust inside the frame is worse than outside the frame.
Get a inspection camera and look around thru the frame holes.
If you plan to keep your rig - the replacement frame idea seems best.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Get it fixed, put a for sale sign on it, and make sure you point out what has been done to it, and what needs to be done to it. Somebody out there will use their resources to rebuild, maybe they have a "good" frame to put under it, who knows? At any rate, don't hide the fact that it has a crappy frame when you sell... you know what they say about karma right?
