    Hello everyone,

    Hello everyone,

I've been searching this forum for this issue before posting with no luck. I have a 2022. The running lights for my trailer do not come on. Everything else works. There is a 30amp fuse under the hood for the trailer lights that was blown. As soon as I installed a new fuse, it immediately blew. I connected the trailer to my Tacoma just to rule out the trailer. No issues at all. All the lights work. So it seems like I have a ground issue from the fuse box to the pin connector. I poked around close to the fuse box and the pin connector for damaged wires, nothing obivous. This seems so odd for just the running lights. Looks like all the wires come in together to the 7pin and then feed the 4 pin. Has anyone had this issue or know of a common problem. TIA

Did you purchase this vehicle new or was it previously owned ?

Is this the first time you’ve noticed this issue?

You stated:”The running lights for my trailer do not come on.Everything else works.”

You stated: “There is a 30amp fuse under the hood for the trailer lights that was blown. As soon as I installed a new fuse, it immediately blew.”
Was this with or without the trailer connected ?

Trying to figure out the scenario.

Get a 7 pun adaptor , if the fuse only blows when the trailer is plugged in, it's definitely an issue with the trailer. Use a multi meter and check for grounds. It might be a slight ground, enough to blow the fuse on the 4runner but not the Tacoma.

And if the 7-pin blows a fuse, it's something upstream of both connectors!

I have not towed my boat yet with my 24 4R.

But I remember a similar issue with my old Explorer. I had a mechanic friend suggest and replaced a flasher I think with a heavy duty flasher. I am no electrician or mechanic but that worked.

I have no idea if a more modern 4R even has this. Mine was the old school 4 pin square style connector.

Years later I had another issue and ended up having to replace all the wiring on the trailer. It’s a 1990 boat and trailer and maybe 20 years in the wiring was shorting so I had it all replaced.

sorry I’m not more technically knowledgeable to help but sometimes sharing ideas and experiences helps.

Best wishes for to find the fix
