I have done a lot of Baja offroading, chasing SCORE races for a major team - but never thought much about "safe" water depths.
This was all in a very well-equipped 4wd Tacoma.
We've retired from all this, and we are about to do some "off-the-beaten path" traveling in our 2015 4Runner Limited,
Does anyone have any insight into "safe" water depths to ford?? Not interested in snorkles!
    Thanx.

If you are not willing to modify your vehicle, then I would go no higher than the middle of your wheel. If you want to go a bit deeper than get your diff breather extended.

Depends on length of crossing, bottom consistency, rate of current, skill and balls. Depth is just one variable.

You can drown in a bathtub or at Niagra Falls... Or not...

Someone posted on another forum that Toyota states somewhere around 24” for a stock Gen5. I forget exactly, but it was more than I expected.
