Good morning! I bought my 2016 4Runner new but am just now joining the club here. I have a Limited 4WD with factory rack and crossbars. I use my Thule Hullaport for hauling my boat but want to add a basket or rack for camping gear. My rescue dog weighs 145, so I need to extra space! I am overwhelmed with the choices, so here is what I need:
What should I get that won't require drilling?
Is there any way to leave factory rack on?
Can I remove it for better mileage and wind noise when not in use, or is that too much for one girl to wrangle?
    THANK YOU!!!!

Toyota Cross bars and basket are probably going to be the most cost effective way to accomplish what you want. There are a ton of options out there. Easily removeable too.

If you decide to go with a full rack, there are plenty of no-drill options (half length, 3/4, full).

Agree, just focus on using the crossbars, there are a few after market options. And get a basket, super easy to take off and put on.

I had this Yakima Megawarrior basket + extension attached to my factory cross-bars before I attached it directly to the side-rails. It is still removable, but was easily removed when attached to the cross-bars. I believe the new Venture edition uses the same set, but without the extension.

I went with this setup so I could remove it for winters.

I have the Venture and the OEM Yakima basket; was easy for one person to remove. 5-10 minutes max. The OEM setup includes 2 keyed locks.

These are a good investment if you're going to leave it on a lot. I believe Yakima sells sets of them separately.

    Edit: yup- https://yakima.com/products/locking-bracket
