I noticed there were a few roof rack posts in the "What have you done to your 4Runner?" thread. But wanted to get the most possible exposure for this question. I have searched everywhere for these "extensions". I have not seen ones that stick up this much. What is the primary use for these? Anyone seen/know someone who has them?

    Thanks!

They look like a ski/snowboard rack.

That's what I thought, but then I wondered about other uses. It would be great if those slid to go wider on the main rack. Thanks for your reply.

Going wider (outside the mounting points) is not ideal as the overhang of the weight(load) then puts side load on the mounts of the factory rails.

Yes some people put their awning on the side of the rack, but the dynamic load is minimal for that example.

But depending on your use case .. if you do decide to go wider route:

oh yeah a DIY solution as found here:

let us know what you decide and why.

IMG_1025.jpg I have similar racks used for snowboards. Can also throw fishing rods in there.
