I purchased skid plates and front bumper from C4 Fabrication. Would recommend anything fabricated by them. Definately top shelf products. Only thing is everything comes raw steel.

Also got molle panels and shelves from Cali Raised great products also.

Both companies will answer a phone and talk when you call, very good costumer service.

Just installed RSG sliders. Bought them as raw metal so I also painted them myself.

    advice -

do not diy this. It was such a pain in the ass. Whatever it costs for the shop to install.. it’s well worth the $$$

Are you saying the install is not DIY or the paint/powder coat? I have the RSG but had them powder coat them. Only drawback of this is sometimes the powder coat can get damaged in shipping. I had no issues with this.

    Some unexpected work:

painting the sliders was more work than I imagined. watching those YouTube videos made it seem like a cake walk… took me two days, applying the coats..

for installation.. had tap all thread holes in my new frame…

dealing with the kdss components were a pain in the ass.

doing all of the above at home, crawling around… my time was worth more than the multiple days I signed myself up for.

end result is close to zero self satisfaction.. whatever I learned from doing this has no future diy automotive applicability.

basically an utter waste of time

Painting I agree it's not worth my time. No experience with KDSS, but mine I bolted up solo in an hour. Only trick was finding something the right height to support them to get couple bolts started.

Had to loosen bunch of kdss hardware to fit the slider behind.
Then also had to cut up a kdss skid cover - this additional labor perhaps limited to rsg’s subpar design.

I am actually doing another cut today.. the opening I cut last night was a bit too small, to clear the slider tube comfortably… sigh more manual labor

Just going to throw this out there - the Wescott Designs sliders on my truck required no modifications whatsoever on my KDSS equipped T4R.

Same here - ordered powder coated. One box went astray, got rerouted, and took a few days longer to arrive. One small corner of a mounting bracket got nicked, but some black bedliner paint covered that. It also was on a spot that doesn't show anyway. But a valid point about shipping possibly causing PC issues.
Sorry for your troubles. I had a friend help, and we knocked out the install on my KDSS OR in just over an hour. No thread chasing/tapping involved. After he left, I trimmed the corner of the KDSS skid, reinstalled, done.

I plan to eventually get the RSG sliders and install them myself. I'm definitely going to get them painted, though. I was already expecting to have to chase all the frame holes.

    Wow no tapping huh?

On my frame, even the holes that have existing brackets installed, I had to tap them… perhaps Toyota sprayed something by into them, after installation of hardware?

I'd read plenty of suggestions to chase the threads, but when I went to install I checked several threaded holes with the bolts provided by RSG and found no issues with the threads. All 20+ bolts threaded in fine. Maybe Toyota has changed some frame process since 2019.

What are you guys using for touch up on powder coating? This would be my only argument to not powder coat knowing it will get damaged with use.

Both my kick outs have done their job and powder coat removed. Not sure if a truck bed liner or something else will match good enough. Not looking for perfect just adequate match at a glance.

Why don’t any of these slider manufacturers provide guidance!?

There is literally zero info from any of them

I've been planning to touch up with Rustoleum. That's what I use on my skids and rooftop basket.

I just use rubberized undercoating in a spray can. Just make sure to remove any rust or oxidation prior to coating.

Any of the spray can bedliners, i.e. Rustoleum, Duplicolor, etc., would work for touch ups.

Didn't use one, but you could remove a mounting bolt from something on the frame and take it to the hardware store as a guide.

Some of the best sliders out on the market made by Jeff & his team at Westcott Designs! Same no issues installing with KDSS. Products made in house and will last a lifetime!!

Having a friend to help install sliders would have made my install much easier. As it was, I'd still have done it myself. The expense of a shop doing it may have doubled the price.

I need to find a friend...

The thing with those is, if you get a chip that breaks the surface, moisture will start to collect underneath, making the rust situation worse

    same issue with bedliner

M8x1.25 for the thread holes on 5g frame

chasing took forever.. some of the holes to bolt the slider are very close to the body.. so you have to pinch the tap with an adjustable wrench and make 1/4 turns at a time..

Lol I had the exact opposite experience. Installed it myself at home with hand tools but then again I have Pelfreybilt sliders and no issues with the kdss getting in the way. I even had the discontinued RSG KDSS skid plate on when I installed the sliders. Painting the sliders is easy peasy and yeah it took me 2 days too between painting and drinking beers in-between the easy work.

I just spray a layer of grease to the underside prior to hitting the trails. Truck slides easily over obstacles.

I have the RCI rock sliders, top tread plate, satin black powder coat, 5 degree. No issues. Got them on sale last year.
