Road salt from hell

I snapped photos today of an evil amount of road salt the spreader truck dumped in front of my garage.
Share experiences with salt use & rust

 

Highways here in Nebraska are white from the salt put down with our 2" of snow. Wish I could get a good pic to post up.

 

Salt? Snow? You mean it’s not sunny and 82 like it is here in Florida? I only have a month left here then I return home to the frozen tundra of Chicagoland

Around here they use a liquid brine solution. Last year I was behind a truck that dispenses this brine. It sprays it out in a fan shape, enough to cover around a lane and a half width.

Anywho, it was dispensing during the day, traffic was moderate on a 4 lane city road.. Traffic approached a stop light, where the truck stopped in one lane, and minivan right next to it.

The truck’s dispenser was supposed to shut off while stopped, but not this time. It hosed the side of the poor minivan in a high pressure brine stream for 20-30 seconds until the light turned. I felt like I was witnessing the destruction of a vehicle. Poor vehicle probably drove home, parked, and had all the doors, and wheels immediately fall off.

Salt and ice melt sucks. It’s definitely going to kill my 4Runner long before the engine dies.

lol. Its a beautiful city. Amazing museums, attractions and food. They mayor is a moron but i love the city. Now that i think about it, the last time we went we ALMOST (really really close) got carjacked. Had my wife not noticed what was about to happen we would have been. Trust me, she reminds me at least 3 times a week that she saved my life.

 

I have been coating mine the last few years but you can’t get to every spot on the chassis. Then there’s all the fasteners and clamps that rust out. I just had an issue while changing the spark plugs where one of the nuts holding the air pump tube on turned to dust and rounded over.

 

Here they pre-treat the roads with beet juice. Then dump shit tons of salt and cinders on the snow ice. It's a goddamn mess.

 

Rust isn't a big deal who's gonna crawl under your truck and complain about how it looks you can fix anything including the frame who cares

Yup. Not a big deal. I’ll just swap my rusty frame with a new one in my driveway some Saturday morning.
