Hey all - new to the forum and 4Runner in general. Been doing my research for the past month or so and lurking around here. Here's my question:

Which will depreciate less in the next 5 years: 2017 Off Road Premium or 2017 Cement TRD Pro?

I ask because I was previously set on an ORP with KDSS, being that this won't see too much OR time, but I came across a decent deal on a Cement Pro. Either way, I plan to go for the Pro look, so ultimately the two beasts will appear similar. I'd expect both of them to depreciate of course, but I wonder if the Cement would hold its value better due to the limited run color.

Any thoughts on this? Any insider info on whether there will be another cement in 2022? haha

Maybe so. But if both trucks essentially look the same and the only difference is the color and suspension, I'm going to like both. Just debating if it's worth the $6-7k premium for a Pro in the long run.

I'm guessing the Pro would depreciate less...:notsure:

The pro will depreciate less, especially it being the cement color.

Cement Pros will become more and more rare and are already very desirable.

No way to know if they'll bring that color back.

Yeah its already not a very popular color even though a niche of us (including myself) thinks its badass. So Im betting itll be rare and perhaps desired by ambitious pockets down the road...

Pro will probably depreciate a little less but considering the initial investment, I doubt it will make a big difference. It you pay 7,000 more for it, it stands to reason that it will be worth more down the road. Percentage wise, I doubt it will be much different. This is a lot like Harley Davidson and their anniversary editions that people bought up thinking they were going to be worth collectors prices down the road. Just didn't happen, even though they cost more initially. And with them, like the Pro, all you were getting was a paint job and a badge.

If I had to think of resale value in 5 years... I wouldn't buy anything...

If you are solely worried about resale then get the PRO as it will depreciate slightly less. But the PRO is a significantly higher priced vehicle so there is that initial investment thing happening. If you again are only thinking resale do not mod your vehicle at all especially if you buy a PRO. If you plan on modding...suspension, tires, wheels, etc., buying a PRO is huge waste of money.

IMO no. Again, especially if you are going to mod it in anyway, I feel the PRO is a ripoff.

I've not driven a Pro with the new Fox setup, but the KDSS is definitely a love/hate ride; if you're making your decision based on depreciation alone, you may need another test drive or three.

Too many mods and too much money
If resale is the topic, buy a 1st gen restore it for about 20k less than a new Pro, buy a 2010 to 2012 SR5 with what you saved. Same engine and drive train as a Pro without the Air injection pump. Put some good Billies on it and call it a summer. Now you have 2 4runners for a little more than you would have ended up paying for a Pro, and one of them is a bad ass restored 1st gen, which are kinda starting to get some collector attention. The old LCs certainly have. Who knows an unmodified 1st gen restoration might go way up in value in the next several years.
