What would the t4r community recommend for rotors and pads?

I’ll have to take a look and see if I can link it but I’m very happy with the drilled and slotted rotors and pads I bought on Amazon. It’s a few pages back in the what have you done lately, up top.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015YHZXFU/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
See if this works. Yep, really happy with these, stops on a dime, no noise or issue of any kind for me.

Only fits up to 91 4Runners according to what I see. 92 to 95 must be a bit different. Great price for the kit though.

I have not had good luck with Toyota or NAPA brake parts, both brands I warped the rotors. The last 3 or 4 brake sets I have installed have been EBC rotors and EBC Greenstuff pads and I have been very happy.

Scotty Kilmer on Youtube recommends Akebono brake pads which I understand is the brand Toyota partly owns & puts on their new vehicles. I have had several 4runners and I think I put Hayes pads on once with good results but last spring I went with the Akebono pads on another 4runner and so far no dust or noise. I will probably stay with Akebono on all my vehicles in the future.....even my Ford F150.

Power Stop Evolution: drilled and slotted zinc-plated-rotors with Z36 carbon-fiber ceramic pads. The 1991 model year at middle of the year changes and the rotors are thicker and the calipers have a wider notch with larger pistons in them. I upgraded both my son's 1990 and my early 1991 4runner to the thicker rotors and wider calipers with larger pistons and these PowerStop brake kits are the best. The brake pads are the same for the pre and post mid 1991 model year vehicles. The ability to skid the Cooper Discovery AT³ 31 x 10.50R -15's takes very little pedal pressure and the modulation is very good.

I put these on my wifes 2002 Odyssey and they made all the difference in brake performance as this minivan likes to keep rolling with its low profile tires. Brake pad replacement beds in very quickly with the slotted rotors. I had gone through a set of pads before we replaced this vehicle and the replacements and performance never faltered. Based on this experience I was glad RockAuto had the kits for the 1990 and 1991 as rotor and pad kits. They were not offered the last time I took a look. But eBay or Amazon might show some options.

I 2nd the powerstops drill and slotted. I've owned my 4runner since 2015 and have replaced front pads and rotors every year. Finally in the spring of 2019 I upgraded my front and back before we headed up north to climb Mt Washington. The truck handled the decent with ease and haven't so much as shimmied on the highway or with heavy braking for an off ramp.

Right on thanks everybody. I ended up going with hartbrakes.com. They seem to be working out okay a year later. Although that was my 1st time doing front brakes and rotors on the runner. Didn't realize you had to take off the wheel hub to replace the rotors. Good experience though.

I’ve used Powerstops on my Tacomas, and always had good results.

Do you know what part number for the Z36 kit I should get for my 2nd gen? I have only found Power Stop K1236-36 which is for 3rd gens. For 2nd gens I have found Power Stop Z23 K1150.

It would seem that PowerStop does not list a part number any longer for the front brake kit that they made for the post 6/91-95 2nd Gen 4Runners, bummer for all of us.
