A lot of choices, many are junk, many don’t do transmission fluid temp.

    vehicle: 2016 4Runner limited

what aren’t people using for obd2 scanners?
The Maddox MRBT from harbor freight seemed like a decent unit but cannot find any in stock.

tried bluedriver from Amazon but couldn’t read transmission fluid temp, even though amazon said it could.
Looking at LAUNCH creator 2.0 now..
    Any recommendations for affordable one?

On the Tundra side we use the VeePeak and OBD Fusion app.

I am happy with my Scanguage 2. It gives dozens of real time parameters

I just got Scanguage3 for my 2019. Without having to enter any codes it displays tire pressures, transmission temps, gear position and more.

    Disclaimer-
Aftermarket stuff installed to OBD2 port may cause problems to ecu per some videos I have seen online. Do it at your own risk.

Any thoughts on screen w/ cable vs dongle + app?

Interesting, do you know if it can read transmission temp on 5th gen 4Runner?

some omd2 scanners say that give transmission live data but they don’t do it for all cars

I’ve been using an app called “Car Scanner” using a dongle that I got from another product (basically, a generic OBD-2 bluetooth dongle).

I’ve used the app for 4 or 5 years and its regularly supported/updated. It provides the pan temps needed to set the fluid level, and also provides post converter temps. Lots of other readings too, so you can set up a live “dashboard” if you want.

Here’s a screen on the iPhone app that I set up for relevant information. You can add other sensors also.

I have a Veekpeak dingle dongle and run OBD Fusion when I need it but I don’t run it constantly as I drive.

User preference. I used the Veepeak setup when I added the transmission cooler to the Tundra. Now i run a ScanGuage 3 full time.
