Since day 1, when shifting from P to D, P to R, sometime and totally randomly

The VSC is off warning sometimes can pop up and disappear in a split second and the traction control light would flicker.

That's about it, no jerking no surging, shifts fine drives fine.

Is this a known issue? Should I ignore or get it checked? Thanks

Long time lurker… first time poster. Do you happen to be at an incline when this happens? Sounds similar, but not exact to my situation, which I realized was the hill-start assist system (vs. every other car I’ve had that uses a dedicated HOLD indicator). Page 334 on my manual describes it.

no, it happens at flat even ground.

I also noticed that it usually happens during cold start when I first put it out of P to D or to R. Later no matter what I try after the vehicle is running it doesn't happen

Probably just need a zero point calibration done. You can do it yourself at home by jumping a couple of pins in the obdii and going through a few steps; or take it to a dealership.

it’s essentially just resting the gyroscope type thing that tells the vehicle it’s on level ground.

if that’s not it, then I’d scan to see if there’s any codes that might indicate an issue somewhere else; like perhaps a bad wheel speed sensor (not that uncommon, they’re in a vulnerable spot).

Edit: video link that explains how to do the zero point calibration - https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=5zCFZoHn53E&feature=emb_title

@Loco x Toyota Did you ever figure out why this is happening? I am having a similar issue.

I'm gonna take a video of it in the morning then will check if I have any other codes or warnings in the menu.

Are you stopped or are you throwing it in gear while rolling in the opposite direction?

Completely stopped. It happens right when I turn it on and shift to R to pull out of my garage

Runners have hill assist that's always on. If you roll in the opposite direction of the gear you chose, it will do its thing. I believe the triangular exclamation point wating flashes along with a trac light but I don't pay attention when or happens and it rarely ever happens for me.

Thanks @whippersnapper02 . Unfortunately, my issue us the one the OP posted about the "VSC Off" message appearing for a split second in the display in the center of the instrument cluster.

Of course when I tried to take a video of it this morning, it didn't happen.:annoyed:

Think I ended up figuring it out while trying to get it to recreate the message.

If I start the vehicle and move it to R before it finishes the "boot sequence" in the instrument cluster, I get the quick flash of a vsc off message. If I let the screens finish want they are doing, then there is no flash of the message.

Looks like @kbp810 was right on the money. It has to finish the test procedure or you get the warning for a split second until it's finished

If anyone else with a 2020 or above can test my theory, as described in my previous post,I would be grateful.

Yes, I came to the same conclusion

Also, on my Tacoma, if I push start the truck and immediate put in Drive or Reverse, I get that message too.

After the booting sequence, it doesn't happen

Thanks @Loco x Toyota . That confirms my findings to. Gonna just think of it as a quirk.
