So back a few weeks ago, we picked up a 4runner, the reason for this purchase was for this possible trip from Maine to the west coast and back. Its about a week from possible take off, and I am looking for some ideas or thoughts.

The 4runner will be pulling a pop-up so I will be looking for places to stop and camp for the night and then move on the next day for the most part. I am also looking for places that would be "stock" 4runner friendly to drive off road.

this is the start to our plan,

I believe a lot of the NPs are still under Covid shutdown. Some you can drive through since the highway goes through the park, but some are totally closed. May want to investigate that since your list looks like all NP.

California State Parks still are closed to camping, day use only.

Assuming that NPs open you should add Crater Lake, do it after Redwood and before Olympic, it's kind of on the way...

We're real close to Redwood NP, between the south unit and the north unit on 101, holler if you need anything. You can set the camper here for a while if you want to explore the area without it. Depending on when you are coming through you can use the house / showers / washing machine... but I have some other guests coming over the next fe weeks as well so the timing would have to be pretty specific.

I think some are opening up some, but ya we are going to play some of it by ear. And thanks for the option to park. I’ll reach out if needed. Again, thank you so much.

Sounds like an awesome trip but damn, I thought I was a procrastinator. You're leaving in a week! Talk about an adventure.

we have been going back and forth on rather we should go, recent events make us question it. But its like 99% a go.

Oh and I hate planning. My hope is to locate free camping spots and not have to deal with reservations.

I understand that completely. Same thing with some of my moto trips this year. Good luck with the camping!

This is an awesome agenda! We had something very similar planned out for this year, a three week road trip across country and back, with multiple park visits planned; but got rain checked when all the Covid stuff hit. Hopefully next year.

Thanks, we won’t get to everything, but everything we get to is just an added bonus when you consider everything you see just on the drive. And honestly, just Rocky Mountain filled the soul, I expect to be over full once we get home.

yosemite requires a day use permit to even enter. They are hard to get but you can get them if its far enough out. 80% of the passes they sell up to a month out. 20% they hold until 2 days before and the system opens at 7am I belive so you can try to jump on early a grab a day pass that way.

That sounds great! Very ambitious driving, especially that first leg. We drive from Deming NM to Columbus, OH, Springfield, MO and Chicago Il every once in a while. I allow for 2 days to Springfield, and 2 + to Chi town, and 3 to Columbus. (I can't take more than 11-12 hrs seat time) Driving thru MO & IL can be a challenge during late spring/summer Tornado season. Storms along the Mississippi can become quite intense. I'm sure you will have a co-driver, which should help. A large portion of AZ, NM, CO and Cali are under Red Flag right now, mind your fires. Happy Trails!
