My 2022 Premium, white with Predator package, was a total loss 2 weeks ago.. (58k) I was heartbroken....I previously owned a 2016 Sr5...

Insurance gave me 38..(37 after deductible...) I was about to buy a 2022 Premium with 45kmiles for $40,500.(total) And salesman convinced me to test drive a 2025 SR5 4wd....mine was paid off and I wasnt feeling pulling anything from savings.

I loved it.....$46, 200 out the door ....I have never put either of my 4runners in 4wd..never used the heated seats...not once....or the sunroof. So they had a 2025 Sr5 RWD in transit..putting the deposit down tomorrow ...hoping to get them to throw in extended warrenty and or tint all windows . As of now its $44,100 total

RIP 2022 Premium, sorry about that. I can see why you would lean toward a RWD, given your use case. Others will try to talk you out of RWD, be prepared.

The only thing I can't wrap my head around is paying $44k for a RWD 4Runner. New is new, but still...

The only downside to the RWD is if you ever wanted to sell it. The market is much smaller vs 4WD.

in her market, rwd is the norm so it shouldnt be an issue. probably GST, SET or CA

its more common to have rwd for states below the mason dixon line for pavement princess people. they will never see an ounce of dirt except road grime.

IMHO if you had no problems with 2022 4Runner is it worth risking for unproven product? Is it worth trouble understanding all the conditions from a 3rd party extended warranty? Is it worth inconvenience of running a non full size temporary spare tire if you have to use it on a highway? Then if you drive highway would you have patience to let the turbos cool down before shutting off as mentioned in the user manual. I assume you are on main land US / Canada so atleast you don't have to go through the trouble of fuel cleaner additive which again stated in manual for the owners living in island regions. I can go on, but can get the idea right?

But I do like the smooth driving on 6th gen 4runner. The engine was smooth as a Camry.

On a side note if you don't use 4wd, moonroof, etc.. May be don't need a 4Runner. An AWD N/A Hybrid like the lines of Rav4 / Highlander might be a better fit. Just a thought. Please don't give angry comments.

Congrats. Sorry about the fact you're forced to be in that situation, but you're up and unhurt in the totalling of the 22. So everything else is easy.

I would suggest that too, but with the tougher suspension and taller tires, I can see why people want 4Runners for locales where politicians routinely siphon tax dollars intended for road repair to pay for pet projects.

Love my new 4RUNNER and would like to pass on the $2000 difference for the 4wd will come back to you plus in the future if possible to buy with it now.
After 46 years selling Toyota and last 25 as GM being furnished demos i hardly every used 4wd but they all had 4wd to sell quicker and bring better money.
Retired for the past 11 years having to buy with my money vehicles for my wife and i still have 4wd for the same reason. Live in Texas and still don’t use but they bring so much better money and sell so much quicker.
Are you making a mistake buying the 2wd: NO.
    Just saying…

Counter point: Why buy a Toyota if you are just gonna sell it in a few years anyway, what's the point of the much vaunted "TOYOTA RELIABILITY" if one doesn't hold it long term? If there is no regular 4wd use, the 2wd is far easier to maintain and way less parts to go wrong with.

I have never gotten rid of a Toyota in my life until the engine died and there was only one of them due to lending it to less car inclined people. My oldest Toyota is old enough to rent a car and then some.

You are right and that was my plan two years ago. 2023 bought the 4Runner i kept and a Limited 4wd Tacoma with the idea at 75 those would last me for a very long run. But app 25 trips to Florida (2k miles each) quickly added miles to the 4Runner as the Taco wasn’t nearly as comfortable. That and after 30+ years of driving a Tacoma i just didn’t want to anymore. The Taco had 15k on it and like they do brought a bucket of money for the trade to the ‘25 Limited 4Runner. Now i believe I’ll be doing what i set out to do a couple of years ago.
The ‘23 and ‘25 will split Florida trips and get mileage more in line.
What you are saying is 100% correct but very few follow that.
Was in the Toyota business from 1968 till 2014 retirement. All say it but few follow. The ones that do pull 300,000+ miles.

My local Toyota has about 7 Different 2025 T4R model awaiting buyers.
    Starting from $42k.
    Strange.

--- Unlike when I bought my 2022 TRD Sports. None was available readily

Meanwhile Lexus GX550 is also available used already ? Why ?
    Unproven Turbo??

Thanks for your perspective, I see in your use case miles can add up quickly.

For high mileage pavement pounders I am partial to Toyota sedans because they have excellent mpgs and large gas tanks for their size, and ride reasonably well with their base trim meaty sidewall tires. For whatever reason, Toyota loves to put small fuel tanks on their trucks and SUVs with at best 400 miles of range before refueling is a good idea, even the 5th gen 4R only has about 460 miles of total range if you run it dry(which is of course not a good idea). By comparison my XV20 Camry has an 18.5 gallon tank with >30 mpg giving a whopping 500 miles before the low fuel light comes on. The longest range I ever saw was my parents' XV30 Camry with a similar size tank but 35 mpg all day long at 70mph. I drove from the SF Bay area down to San Diego and still had ore than a 1/4 tank left.

From another way of looking at it, if one is frequently putting on 2k miles at a time in a 4runner, perhaps the modest improvement in gas mpg and maintenance cost added over time will pay for the difference at time of resale :)

Plenty of folks making fickle financial decisions even before we get to the quality of the vehicle itself.

There was a guy over at hyundai-forums who traded in vehicles a bunch in rapid succession for reasons ranging from not measuring the garage to not looking at the front-end until after purchase. (they didn’t like it)

Not only Turbo. There's also transmission issues on Tacoma, Tundra & GX550.
I've seen 2025 Land cruiser going to limp mode.(I think hybrid issue)
I have 2nd hand experience 2025 Land cruiser feel dead for few seconds when accelerator is pressed little hard to merge. Near rear end accident by vehicles behind. My friend could not reproduce again.

Here in Denver there are 6gen 4Runners in stock and some are lifted with spacer lift and 34 & 35in tires. I think they are trying best to sell them. Same story for Tacoma. Stock/ non lifted Land cruisers also in stock. There was a lifted Land cruiser and it wasn't there this week. Needless to say about Tundra.

Didn't the GX550 have engine problems similar to the Tundra? I thought I heard something along those lines...

Toyota seems to have had some bumpy roads with their 8 speed transmission. The version used in Taco/4R has had issues as have the transversely mounted version used in Camry and Rav4 gas models.

I don't understand how they can f it up in the year 2025, 8 speed transmissions have been in mass model use since ~2010 and even Stellantis has had good luck sourcing theirs from ZF.

Why is it so hard to make the new T4R a V6 to run as smoothly and fuel efficient as a Highlander without going Turbo.
    Enlighten Me Please!!!

EPA mpg/emissions standards, previous federal electrification push, CARB mandates, and EU emissions standards intended as an EV push. Toyota still offers the 1GR for J300 land cruisers and Fortuners in many markets.
