Predator Steps

Has anyone ever cut off the (4) steps but kept the rest of the bar in place?

 

No, But dang this sounds intriguing.

 

Actually it can be done. I bet it isn't as hard as these are very light weight. I broke the ones on the Taco, the step is the weakest point so if you hit something they will brake at that level right away. I probably have the pic when I broke the one.

Why would you consider this?

They are already worthless as a slider and cutting the step off will make them worthless as a step as well. Now you will have 2 pieces of aluminum hanging off the rocker panels that are at high risk of getting smashed into the rocker. No step at all would be safer for the rocker panels as you get a couple more inches of clearance.

 

Now that my kid doesnt need it to help him get in the back seat, i want to chop them bc I hate rhe look. Plus at times i bang my ankle on them getting in and out

 

i dont need either piece for steps, but I do like the look of a “slider” though.

 

I have the predator steps on my 4Runner, and I had them on my Taco. I found them to be pretty useless. They're only good to have if you have small children or a vertically challenged wife. I have neither. I'm so damn tall I can easily step into my 4Runner with ease.

I have wanted to remove them and maaaaaaaaaaaybe add some powered running boards. They'd be there when I need 'em and gone when I don't. Plus, the step is wider!

I agree with #TrailSpecial22, I can’t tell you how many fricken times I’ve tagged my ankle getting out of my rig. Literally the day I brought her home I wanted to remove those bastards and sell them on FB Marketplace, but my wife talked me out of it. I’m still gonna, soon. They came with the truck to pump up profit margins I’m sure.

 

OEM Toyota rock rails off Facebook marketplace might be a better option I guess. It provide some protection.

Then sell existing predator steps and get some money.

 

But why? Because the predator steps hang lower than grandpas balls.

same scenario here. I didnt want the steps or the Yakima rack, however because I wanted a new 4runner in lunar rock, it came with it.

 

Nice! Oh I will, got the angle grinder ready to rock this weekend.

 

I think it's that easy. A grinder to remove the step that has wreaked havoc on your schin/ankle.

Make sure you smooth down the point of attachment really well, then hit it with some type of rustoleum spray paint (textured).

You can always sell them on FB Marketplace and get some real sliders.

existing predator steps for sale may unfortunately be dime a dozen, but the recommendation is bang on - if the experimental chop doesn’t go perfect enough, oem rock rails mount to rocker panels just the same

 

I was able to sell my 3.5 year old predators for $350 on Craigslist.

Definitely didn't cover the cost of the sliders but made them hurt a bit less.

Note that there are 2 types of OEM Toyota "sliders" - Rock Rails and Trail Rails. The Rock Rails mount to the frame and the Trail Rails mount to the rocker.

I've been tempted to cut them off after having bashed my shins on them. Thankfully I have yet to bend/break them seeing as how I've not done any heavy crawling. Still gotta worry about them even on forest roads so I let my tires help me out.

Do we need to do a collection so that Photon gets proper rock sliders?
