Took the pump apart to replace the seals etc and wondered about the reservoir - is there a screen etc that’s replaceable in that ? And recommends on what to use to clean flush it out ? By the way - pump has been working just wanted to clean and renew it.

Why not replace reservoir? Every 100,000 miles or so I do on all my vehicles. If any actual problems I add an in-line filter also.
What fluid are you using? How often refreshed or changed?

Lots of opinions for which ATF. Max Life gets lots of positive reviews. I think it is especially good for older systems due to seal conditioners. I did a couple PS reservoir suction & fills with it. It really cleaned up brown residue from factory original PS fluid. Now I am using Mobile one full synthetic ATF.

Good info ! I’m replacing the rack and the hoses - perhaps I could have did the pump as well but didn’t - I was going to replace the seals etc of the pump - the pump was working when I tore into everything I just figured I’d get it cleaned up and rehab it !
