One dealer close to me has approximately 17 used 6gens listed for sale. SR5 and TRD off road models are in abundance. The dealer is in Cedar Park Texas if you’re interested in that kind of data. They are a huge dealership too.

    Hmmmm, wonder why??

Which is why I won't accept a dime less than $100k for my 5th Gen.

Don’t be a typical foolish American. I can find overpriced listings all day long. Look at the vehicles that are listed at that dealership I mentioned. They’re all around 49k with low mileage.

You edited your original post and provided no information on what dealership you were talking about, and then throw shade on me?

Guess I'll go be a typical foolish American elsewhere.

CarMax has 55 2025's nationwide, looks like lower-mid-40k's (pre-tax and everything) is about where a used, lower mileage 4WD SR5 currently lands.

Their 2024 4WD SR5, SR5P of similar mileage are in a similar ballpark, add maybe 20k-30k miles though and you're in the 30's.

I won't claim the 6th gen has no or little improvement but buyers will have to contest with a lot of lost equipment, interior materials, etc. for that price bump.

@Snow Packed is this a gotcha?

Maybe. It seems unusual that there would be a lot of folks selling/trading in their new vehicles after only a few months. But maybe it’s not so unusual.

Are the 2024 5th Gens commanding more price compared to a used 2025 6th Gen in 2026?
That's like the 2021/2022 2.5 Gen Tundra equal to or even more expensive compared to the 2022 Gen 3 Tundra.

It can get close but not really it seems from my cursory check of CarMax.

Buyer’s remorse or repossession? I wonder which is more prevalent.

New 4Runner sales have been good, but not great, although last month’s 10,713 was technically the 3rd best January ever, behind ‘21 & ‘22. I’d be very interested to see what percentage of those sales are conquest versus Gen5 trade-in’s. We may see that a large portion of 4Runner’s traditional buying demographic is being swapped for a new group of buyers.

It's just outside of Austin aka Berkeley of Texas, so perhaps buyers' and lessees' moods are easily changed.

I don't get why people are shocked about the amount of used 6th Gen's out there. They went on sale in the 1st-ish quarter of 2025. That means it has been almost a year. I checked AutoTrader for 2025's and up (any 6th Gen marked used) for the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. Currently, there are 54.

    https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/toyota/4runner/kennedale-tx?startYear=2025

I won't try to explain why there are that many (or that few?), or why people traded them back in with less than a year of ownership. Shit, I once owned a car for barely 2 months, and it was right before I bought my 4Runner. I quickly realized it was not the car for me and got out of it right away.

There have been a few complaints about the engine being noisy inside the cab. Im sure there are a few cases of people that bought something that they couldn't afford in the long run. Toyotas payment estimate calculator on the dealership sites are outrageously high.

The comparison will need to take into account the original MSRP. On trims like OR and up the price went up 8-10k on comparable trims from 24 to 25.

All I know is in my area 22-24s with under 30k miles are all still selling at or just under their original MSRP. I don't know who are these extremely successful nobel prize winning rocket surgeons buying 55-70k 6th gens and immediately turning around to sell them or trade them in on something else but the state is loving the double dipping in sales tax on those units, that's for sure, but the buyers don't seem to be in my area as after a whole year of them on sale I have seen three occurrences of 25-26s and I am pretty sure two of them were the same vehicle.

I suspect a lot of middle to older aged folks that would have considered a 5th gen will not be considering a 6th gen due to 6th gen's "style".

5th gen seemed like a refined and contemporary vehicle choice. Even 15 years after its release. People from age 20 to 80 might still buy one. 6th gen seems like it was designed solely for a younger demographic.

Mods? None. Been there, done that. I like this one stock.
I know that Avis has them in their rental fleet because I rented one in Eugene, Oregon last August. That’s what made me switch from Jeep Wrangler to Toyota 4 Runner.

I have a buddy that retired from national car rental, and he said that many of their cars are returned to the leasing company once it reaches a certain mileage.

Bumped into a guy stepping out of a 2025 Trd Off-road a few days ago. He loves it. Traded in his 2019 for that one. Really likes the new drivetrain but understood my reservations about a 4 cylinder 4Runner.

Funnily enough I'm so curious about that one-off 5th gen 4-cylinder model.

I know about the usual performance and economy reservations and no 4WD but I was coming from 10-second cars (0-60) anyway.

(I also looked for a Kia Borrego before buying this one so I'm an oddball like that.)

Just for giggles I searched cars.com for used Corollas and RAV4 Primes and then filtered by year and found no 2025’s in either case.

I only did a search for 2025 Corolla's within a 50 mile radius of me (I only selected used because there were "new" ones listed). This is what I found:

    upload_2026-2-17_11-47-40.png

    ...I got 99 problems, but a Corolla ain't one.

In 2025 Toyota sold 250k Corollas and 99k 4Runners. If we extrapolate the volumes of the two models that were sold in the DFW metroplex, 51 6th 4runners is proportional to 128 4runners for sale in the area if 250k 4RUnners were sold a year in the US, compared to 99 corollas, that means 6th gen 4runner buyers are ditching theirs at a 29% higher rate after just 1 year even though the Corolla is arguably a higher fleet percentage. That percentage might be even higher for 4runners since part of that 2025 calendar year volume of 99k were 5th gen left overs. Let me know if my math is off here but intuitively a higher volume car will have more units used available in any area so those 99 problems are actually good news for Corollas being more scarce than 4runners in relation to their sales volume.

Take that whichever way you want, I guess. It's true that it is not your problem either way since you are not in the market for a 6th gen anyway.

I will say this, my 2008 Corolla S has 232K miles and still a very strong car. Best AC between my 3 Toyota's; 2008 corolla, 2013 taco, 2015 4runner :benchpress:

Look at the first four listings
    (4) of them are listed as USED 2025 models with 201 miles
That would make me think they are hold-overs that the dealership had to buy. I've seen a dealership be considered as an owner on vehicles in Texas before. Looking at vin search history on vehicles in the past i have seen vehicles that showed 3 owners, but when checking out the registration a dealership be considered an owner on the title even if it was only for 20-50 days. Maybe the dealer had to buy them to get them out of Toyotas inventory, now they belong to the dealer and had to be considered "owned" and titled and thus used.
Also, super crazy this $66,000 Limited is marked down to $60,000
Look at all them poverty buttons on a freaking Limited 4wd hybrid

So.... Maybe the dealer in Cedar Park Texas bought it and shipped it down to Texas where it would sell. Either way, 201 miles seems odd.

Also, the rental car companies typically keep vehicles and push them back to the dealers around 12,000 miles to 16,000 miles.
We have a local dealer that pretty much buys Enterprise rentals at auction or thru some network of buy-backs. Their lot is always full of the same identical vehicles, always 12,000 miles, all the same model, ect ect. Basically when their used car inventory gets low they always get another wave of the same things. All bland colors, all the same models, all the same mileage, when you look at the history they were Enterprise cars. I assume a lot of the rental companies will be rolling out 12,000 mile 2025s about now back to dealers.
