Hello, why is it so expensive? I did not ise the correct tool today doing an oil change, damaged the plastic a bit but nothing critical, would like to get a new one for the peace of mind but this seems ridiculous!!

    175$??

I went to the aluminum cap due to hype but wanted to go back to the OEM plastic because I couldn’t remember if I swapped the spring or not. I saw the price of it and didn’t get it until someone on here had one up for $50.

Some Toyota parts make no sense on pricing. Like their hood insulation is $300 for a thin piece of cardboard.
But in their defence the plastic oil assembly lasts the life of the vehicle.

@java If you search around at other on-line dealers you can find it at a better price. There are often parts deals for 10-25% off and free shipping for orders over $75. I think I paid $115 for a backup one last year. Not a significant savings but slightly better than the price you listed.

If you can wait there will probably be parts deals closer to the end of November (Black Friday / Cyber Monday)

I stumbled across a plastic filter cap on eBay a few weeks ago. Some details I remember were that the seller claimed it was from a 2023 4Runner, like new, no damage, that they had swapped it out for the metal one. Seller was in Ohio. Starting asking bid was $25.00.

There were no bids on it yet at the time I saw the auction ad. It’s probably gone by now. Maybe I should have snagged it and flipped it. $175.00 is crazy.

if yours isn’t leaking, just keep searching for now short term. Maybe they pop up cheap on eBay from time to time.

I got 2 of them sitting in the boxes Aluminum came in that I replaced them with. Extra drain plug too. I guess I should try to sell them, just hate dealing W/public when selling stuff :facepalm::frustrated:

I cracked the bottom filter drain plug on a Dorman aluminum housing on my 1st oil change 4 years ago. I got the factory plastic one for about $108. I told the parts guy I was new to KY and a long time Toyota owner. If I hadn't chatted him up I would of paid that $175. I'm running a Toyota metal one now. Plastic housing is my backup.

OP, just buy the metal Toyota one off Amazon for 15620-31060. Toyota of North Miami has them for $54.

Yeah I bit the bullet and ordered a second filter housing just to have on hand in case the dealer hosed mine up on one of their "free" oil changes. It was $119 from bam but also included the filter and gasket. But I'm with you, its spendy just considering its plastic.
