My husband and I placed an order for a custom 4Runner back in May of this year at the dealership in Roswell, NM. They keep telling us that production hasn't even started and it will take 6-8 weeks to complete once production starts. Does it normally take this long for production to even start?? Thanks!

During covid season expect long wait times. It could be pushed out last minute before scheduled delivery.

haven't heard the latest on all this microchip shortage junk, but overall production appears to still be delayed.

There’s no such thing as a custom 4Runner.

Not sure what “custom” is. However I imagine you mean built to the options you two picked.

my order was placed at the end of January and my vehicle came in March 05 to the dealer. Delivery time greatly varies on the dealer you place your order from based on what others have said.

It depends on what trim and color you choose. Toyota follows their schedule and when the vehicle that you requested gets built, if your dealerships allocation is up (meaning it’s their turn to get a vehicle) then one is sent to the port where other accessories you wanted are installed.

I just spoke with a dealership yesterday, as it appears they have a Lunar Pro in transit, but it’s a customer who ordered in January.

Like mentioned above, how you spec'ed it may make it take longer and also how many allocations your dealer gets can affect how quickly you get it.

If your dealer has used a lot of their allocations already they may have to wait until they have an available allocation.

I assume you factory ordered a 2022, because the factory orders for 2021 stopped back in May. I tried our local dealership and their allocations were all used up so they put me on a list, #7, but still had no model options or VIN - which was not good enough, so I started looking elsewhere.

I got on cars.com and started looking around and calling dealerships within 500 miles, and finally found one that was inbound on the ship and still unsold. It was from a dealership 50 miles away, but it was exactly what I was looking for, and below MSRP. Some of the listings on cars.com were already sold, but it's worth calling these dealerships and asking what they have coming in or on the lot.

I just got a '21 that was built on 7/3, so they're still out there.
