Agree on all fronts ! A built LS swap into a 4R would be awesome. Edit, just saw the post above, a Tundra 5.7 with a Magnuson sounds like the way to go. I'm sold !

Hell, I'd be happy with just a 10 sp auto swap. LOL
LS swaps on the DX pickups i've seen on the tubes are pretty cool.

For the price of a supercharger, tune, intake and exhaust, and related install you can get a fun weekend car, or a pretty fast motorcycle.

4Runners aren't ever going to be quick. I don't care how many pounds of boost you give it.

I agree with the first paragraph. But, anything can be quick with enough power.

Show me a 4.0 4Runner that's built enough to be fast and I'll be on your side. People be fawning over getting an extra 75whp out of one, and it increases the 0-60 by like .5 seconds haha

After my Taco being pretty disappointing with the blower, I bought a GTO for speed. At the time it was $4290 for the blower but now it’s $7K so not such an easy pill to swallow.

You didn't specify it had to be a 4.0. Either way, it's still possible. It's just not practical.

I don't think it makes sense at all, though, to want a 4Runner to be fast. If I was going to supercharge one, it would be for better towing power.

I mean yeah like with enough money anything is possible. But 99.99% of this forum is weekend warrior bolt on guys. People making real power arent coming here to ask us about pedal commanders and which exhaust causes drone.

I'm planning on buying something quick and nimble to go with the 4Runner, eventually. I'm considering an 86 or a Z.

    Exactly. It's possible. That's what I said.

I also said that it's not practical and it doesn't make sense to me to want a 4Runner to be fast.

I overheard two coworkers last week going back and forth making different points affirming the same thing.

I was like, "Can you two quit aggressively agreeing?!"

A 4Runner with a supercharger and perhaps a tune wouldn't be fast, but it would be alot more fun, no? If I needed to outrun somebody, I'm not hopping in my 4Runner no matter what it's packing under the hood. But, supercharger whine.......:curls:

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone !

Borla exhaust, Jet MAF sensor, K&N filter, Hayden rapid cool transmission cooler, Hella horns, electric fan, Pedal Commander, Derale power steering cooler,
I will be honest. Except for a TRD supercharger or regear, you're pretty much wasting your money. I will share what I have tried and could actually tell a difference. I have used K&N, Jet performance, etc. Increasing velocity of air flow in intake tube does the same as a cold air intake. It's already a cold air intake from the factory. You can buy an intake tube separately from K&N and another maker for $100 that will do the same thing with factory intake. The TRD intake just has a shorter, smoother tube that you have to buy everything in order to use. I use a homemade 3" intake tube and Fram or Denso filter now. If I was getting an aftermarket intake system, it would probably be an aFe Momentum GT for design, cleaning, style of filter and ability to add a ram air auxiliary intake feeding straight into the airbox. If you want to really keep it and upgrade, a CSF or Mishimoto performance aluminum radiator for longevity, reliability and more cooling for engine and transmission, Denso TT iridium plugs, Borla exhaust, Jet performance MAF sensor. I only use Mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic oil and synthetic gear oil. I have a Pedal Commander that I don't use anymore since my hesitation lag is gone now. Performance wise, I would get a Banks Throttle controller if you want to try something like that first. Good for bigger tires and eliminates pedal lag. I did install some allegedly hotter coils, but I doubt that honestly. The easiest thing to try is the Banks throttle control and don't operate it in a mode that is to sport. I don't know if the 245k and engine freeing up or a combination of the Denso TT plugs, Borla exhaust, intake tube and MAF sensor all helped some. When I turned off my pedal commander I didn't have any more acceleration lag. It will give you an idea if you want to do anything else and you only have to plug it in. They say the OT Toyota tune is good.

I very happy with my "performance" mods.

Im currently using an injen intake, jba mid pipe and trd exhaust with an kdmax 10.0 tune. The intake and exhaust dont really add power, the mid pipe probably only adds power at hi rpms. But i love how all 3 sound together. The kd max tune is the only one that truly made a difference.
Im now running 34" tires so im going to regear to 4.56s and call it a day.

But i will say even with my 34" tires my 4runner feels much quicker then when it was stock.

If your 4runner is stockish, get an ott tune. If your running larger tires regear and get a ott tune. If you want to hear it get intake/exhaust
