Pedal Commander may be the best $205 I've ever spent

I wasn't sure what to make of the Pedal Commander, but Vivid Racing had (has?) them on sale for $205, so I decided to bite the bullet.

Installation took 3 minutes, including removing and reinstalling the relevant trim piece. It could not be easier.

And OMG what a difference. I think we've all gotten slowly acclimated to mushy pedals as manufacturers search for every last bit of fuel economy. This (set at City +2) is how throttles are supposed to feel.

Before, the 4Runner felt reluctant. Now it feels downright frisky. Turns out this engine has good horsepower and torque. It's all just bottled up behind crappy throttle programming. Doesn't feel like a V8 or anything, but it feels like what you'd expect from a 4.0L V6 -- strong.

This mod requires no modifications to anything. You can do it in the time it took you to read this post.

How’s your fuel economy after the install or still to early to see a difference?

Still too early. Honestly, it would have to be pretty bad for me to care. And the PC does have an "Eco" setting to address this for daily driving. But after feeling it at City +2, I just can't.

I wonder if this would have any negative effects if it was paired with an accessorides remote start?

the pedal commander plugs into the obd port right?

I gotta add this to my to do list. Don't get me wrong, I didn't buy my 4R expecting it to be fast, but it would be nice to have a little more pep around town. I'm sure it'll help too once I upsize my tires. Thanks for the review OP

Nope. It plugs in between the accelerator pedal and the oem wire that plugs there.

I’m tempted to try one. I just see a ton of them go up for selling on all the 4runner pages. If they’re so good, why people getting rid of them?

I’m very tempted but keep seeing many negative reviews as well saying peoples rigs go into limp mode because of the pedal commander and as soon as it’s removed and codes are cleared rigs go back to normal.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
I have heard of problems with the PC. I hope you don't have any of those issues. I just installed a Sprint Booster and agree with you. It really makes the power that the 4.0 has much more accessible.

I have the Accessorides remote start and pedal commander on my 2020 and no issues. Pedal Commander plugs into the accelerator pedal and not the OBD port.

Issues occur when the user changes modes while the truck is still rolling. Modes should only be changed when the truck is at a full stop. Doesn't have to be in park, just stopped.

Is there somewhere in the directions/install guide that I'm assuming you get with the PC that warn you about the coming to a stop before changing settings? Or is something someone found out by trial and error? Just curious, I thought about trying the PC also.

with Sprint booster it says keep your foot off the pedal and change away. For what it's worth though I tested modes in the beginning but since I've not touched it in over a year. Red 5 and never looked back

One other question... Has there been a side by side comparison of the Sprint booster and the PC? I'm sure there are pros and cons to each one.

I don't know about the Pedal Commander but the Sprint Booster instructions say multiple times not to change settings with the accelerator pressed. Maybe that is why some are having problems.

I have a brand new HikeIt. I bought a second one when they were on sale a few months ago. They are only $199 brand new. They are the same product as far as I can tell. I've had them on my Jeeps and now my 4 Runner. So if you are looking for a good deal on a similar product PM me.

I never had the PC only because I heard of Sprint booster first.
Sprint booster has a security option to disable the pedal all together. No one stealing the rig without a tow truck.
Not sure if PC has that?

PC does not have that. But if the Sprint Booster works the same way, then all the thief would need to do is disconnect the SB and reconnect the factory throttle cable. Likewise, you could "disable" the pedal with the PC by just disconnecting the cable.

In other words, if a thief was smart enough to understand what was going on, he could easily work around either device.

I keep mine hidden so they won't know its there. Unless the rig is in the middle of no where no thief is gonna take time to diagnose and then try to yank the plug out. If they want it that bad, that's what Insurance is for... wait the 21s are out soono_O

I paid close to $300 for mine but money well spent. After adding over 200 lbs in sliders and sound deadening I was down to 14.5 MPG. I added the pedal commander set on city 1 and now I get 15.7 MPG which is what I was getting when I first got it. Way better throttle response too. If you do not have one yet do yourself a favor and pick one up

I have both PC and SB. PC for the 4Runner and SB for the Tacoma. This weekend is the 2nd time the PC acted up and threw the 4Runner into limp mode. I fully made sure the harness clicked in like how the PC customer service told me the 1st time the PC threw the truck into limp mode. It's been 1 1/2 years owning it and I'm done with the PC. I disconnected the PC and cleared the CEL with the help of the Scanguage and the 4Runner worked as normal. The SB on the Tacoma has worked flawlessly and was installed 2-3 months after I installed the PC on the 4Runner. I'll wait for black Friday and get another SB for the 4Runner.
