My 09 just popped a P0022 code at me. Truck runs great, no timing chain noise. The oil was dirty so I changed it. I dropped the lower pan and the oil pickup screen was clean. I am now assuming the solenoid and/or valve filter are bad. Is this one of those parts that really really should be replaced with OEM like an O2 or a MAF or can I get away with aftermarket?

A P0022 code refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module) or ECM (engine control module). VVT is a technology used in the engine to allow it to get greater power or efficiency at different running points..

Is the solenoid a part that I should replace with OEM or would aftermarket be Ok?

I ended up pulling the bank 2 solenoid and cycling it with 12v and cleaned it well with a soft nylon brush and carb cleaner. I was getting 7.8ohm at about 90° F temperature. I also cleaned up the camshaft position sensor. After 100 miles the code hasn’t come back.
