It’s a Rola rack. There’s an extension available for it too, if desired. In these photos the basket is attached to the factory roof rails with the 4x Innovations mounting brackets.

Ours came with the Yakima basket that was added at the port. We took it off and sold it the next day.

IMG_5621.jpg I don’t consider rooftop baskets to be sexy like a Chevy big block, CAT diesel or a super chargers but I also just installed the Rolo rack last week. I picked this brand as I have a hitch carrier from them and it’s a solid piece for a reasonable price. I only plan to use it to transport my tools or luggage in a Thule rooftop waterproof bag when traveling between my home and cabin a few hours away.

I do not like basket. If I could I'd get gobi/prinsu full roof racks. I can not, because none of those fit crossbars needed for my kayak carrier. But to me those look way cooler than a basket type.

Be careful of low clearance bridges though. Make sure she sits next to you for those :)

I liked how the Thule basket looked on my Venture but I took it off because it's easier to load up 8' boards and Kayaks without it and when my sunroof was open I could hear the wind guard rattling.

I disagree that a basket makes it look sexy. To me a basket makes it look like you're taking your kids to a soccer game. Now a roof rack is different, that completes the vehicle and makes it look bad ass

You have a point about the relative charisma of a roof rack vs a basket. But a huge feature of the basket is that I can install and remove it whenever I want by myself.

While we’re on the topic of charisma (which shouldn’t be the determining factor when buying a rack, I know) I like the tubular racks the best - Gobi, Voyager, Baja Racks. They have a more “expedition-y” feel. The flat-sided erector set roof racks remind me of the crew cut on a barbell boy.

Strong disagree! They look lame to me. Definitely better when full with gear on the way to an adventure but for daily driving around town I think they look pretty bad compared to normal racks. I took mine off and solid it week one.

That limited needs some sexy wheels and beefy AT tires to go with that sexy rooftop basket. The loss of a mpg or two because of these items not so sexy.

I like that there are more ladies joining this board lately. I hope this type of stuff doesn’t chase them away. (… said the father of two daughters, one of whom drives a 4Runner.)

How about basket vs. box? I'm starting with a box because that's what I have and it's fine for road trips. I'm dubious about whether it has enough internal load control and whether the old-style mounts will stand up to mild trail use. When I get my updated setup all done I might post pics.

Well the basket has the advantage of versatility regarding how you strap things down. It also has the disadvantage that you must strap things down. As far as load shifting, not a problem. I’ve found that the loadout increases to consume all available space.
