    So I bought some aftermarket TRD wheels that are 17x8 with 16mm offset. I do not know much about offset so can someone tell me if 16mm offset puts the tire more in the fender or pushes it out?

    No. Factory 17x7.5 wheels on a 4Runner should have an offset somewhere between 13-17mm, most likely 15mm. TRD wheels will have an offset of 4mm. A 30mm offset will push the wheel and tire closer to the suspension, compared to the OEM 15mm or 4mm offsets.

    Go to "willtheyfit.com", and play around with different wheel and tires specs (to include offsets), and you'll get a better idea of how offsets will affect the wheel's relation to the suspension.

    Here's an example. If the wheels you're replacing are 17x7, +16mm offset, and these are 17x8, +16mm offset, that extra 1" in wheel width will be split evenly on the hub between the front and back (since the offsets are the same). So the back of the wheel will be 1/2" closer to the suspension, and the front will poke out 1/2" more than before.

    Ran the numbers on the website, using a tire size of 265/70, wheel sizes of 17x7.5, +30mm offset, and 17x8, +16mm offset:

    Be mindful of the "-" in front of your offset number.
    TRD Pro wheels are 17x7 +4 offset.
    My RRW wheels are 17x8.5 -12 offset.

    Also be mindful of width.
    A 7.5" -12 wheel will be about the same as an 8.5" +0

    If that site accurate then I should be fine. It actually moved me away from the strut assembly which is good since I want to run a bigger tire. I checked 275 and 285 tires it it still doesn't put me back to stock location on the back of the tire

    My mistake, I just saw it under "New Posts" and didn't pay attention to what Gen of 4Runner. Going from 17x7.5 +30 to a 17x8 +16 should be no problem at all, depending on tire size. Up to a 275 should clear, but a 285 will probably rub in a couple of spots.

    I must admit people talking about rubbing is a pet peeve of mine lol.
    Cut enough plastic and metal out of the way and it wont rub. I can't count how many times I've been asked "dO tHeY rUb!?!"

    Sandy Cat's 4R has 37s that don't rub because he took the time to clearance everything properly.
    People should be more concerned about regearing, bending tie rods, bending spindles, folding cam alignment tabs, breaking CVs, going through steering racks and power steering pumps 10 times faster... But no. They just want to know if "it rubs"

    My two cents is to stick with the stock tire size if your worried about trimming plastic. If your okay with putting in the work and trimming where you need to 33s or 34s are a good compromise. Very good off road performance while not stressing factory parts too heavily.
