That’s funny. I’ve seen 4Runners with the grill modified as Meefzah suggests. If you’re not looking for it you don’t notice it.

When I first came to this forum and became acquainted with the “low profile” winch bumper it seemed strange to me. I’ve had 2 vehicles with winches, and in each case the spool and clutch were fully exposed, for ease of use.

Those cuts are invisible once done - the red color obviously grossly exaggerates them - but as with all mods that place a premium on function over form, they ain't for everyone.

If a guy stacks ducks on his dashboard like he's an assistant manager at Toys R Us, has 24" low profile mud tires, and single handedly bought out Ama zon's stock of LED pods then he probably isn't going to want to trim a piece of plastic to make accessing his winch clutch easier.

I guess I just don't get why someone would cut out part of their Grill when there are other options for accessing the lever that are invisible.

You don’t? Really? How about not having to open your hood to use your winch?

Yeah, you could chose to go wireless. Or is that a taboo method on this site?

Fair enough, I won't cut your grille!

I think the hole in the grill would bug me.

But, maybe you're right and I wouldn't even really notice it. I just try to avoid cutting things when I can. On the other hand, I did do viper cuts and cut my bumper cover for a low profile winch bumper, so who knows.

The hood should always be up when winching. People don't understand potential projectiles. The hood up will definitely stop/ deflect them.

My bumper has cutouts in the front that you can reach in and turn the lever for freespool or the other side to hit the on/off switch but isn’t real convenient.

My 4Runner is a 4th Gen and the top of the inside of the hood is open/has access and I can easily reach down to freespool or flip the on switch vs. The 5th Gen is covered.

Not sure of this gives you all any ideas, but it is much more convenient for me to reach straight down and access the winch with the hood up vs. reaching in and fumbling through the front of the bumper cuts.

I need to improve asthetics. Surley any one can do better. I cut with a dremel, used 2 hinges and attached tje plastic with rivets. It helps me access the clutch of the winch, keep the dust out and won't loose the plastic piece.
