New Member - PA - Looking to Buy 4Runner

Hi there! Joining the 4Runner forum as I'm looking to buy one soon. Currently in central PA and hoping to get a 4Runner before winter months roll in. Needing something a bit sturdier, with 4WD, plus an overall good family car. I'm curious about what's a good deal as far as 5th Gen used. I've had my eye on a few, particularly a 2012 SR5 4WD, current mileage 135,234, 1 previous owner. It's priced a little under $17K. Drove great when testing out, checked under the hood and all looked good. Just wondering if I should jump or take a look at other years within 5th Gen (with less mileage, but higher $). If going with the 2012, curious if it'd be worth getting an extended warranty too? Any thoughts and help here is appreciated. Excited to get one regardless in the coming months! Thanks all.

Welcome. Im in hershey pa. If the 4runner was taken care of mileage really doesnt matter. Main things is to look for rust. Body and frames rust quick in pa.

4runners move quick in pa so if you find one you like jump on it.

I just hit 198k on my 2013, I bought it in 2019 with 79k. I declined the extended warranty at the time, and I'm glad I did because I'd never have needed to use it. It hasn't needed any significant repairs in the time I've owned it and that would have been money wasted.

Definitely rust is the biggest thing to look for on these, mileage isn't much of an issue as long as the engine oil was changed regularly.
