Eh, I wouldn't hold my breath. It's Nissan we are talking about. They already ruined the Pathfinder line and stripped their car lineup of all the fun sedans.

Pathfinder would move back onto this revised FM platform.

And plan to rebirth the Q50 with a TT6 and a manual, borrowed from the Z.

I’ve never been a huge Nissan fan, but their Infiniti Gs and FXs were great.

That's not quite what the article said

"The platform is reportedly designed to support five models, including an updated Frontier, as well as future versions of the Pathfinder and Infiniti's QX60."

I highly doubt they want to move all pathfinder back to BoF now that the consumers are finally used to the Pathfinder as a budget option in between Rav4 and highlander.

So it will be exclusive to high end pricing and no Nissan equivalent in the 30-50k range, bold plan cotton, and all that.

I actually bought a Nissan earlier this year, a hard to find manual Versa. Had they offered a manual in the Altima or Sentra that would have been preferred. But they then made the manual only available in the base-base trim, luckily I am a no-frills kinda guy so it works for me but can't say I'm surprised the manual take up rate was so low not available in their sport trim. I'm not complaining, it is paired to an old school 1.6 L NA port injected I4 that has been time tested, even has a hand brake. Woo!

    Okay....

In any case, a V6 hybrid BoF SUV with range extending potential sure sounds like it's gonna be a 3ton minimum proposition

Prove me wrong, Nissan, prove me wrong.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Nissan is dancing with bankruptcy right now. I wouldn't hold my breath that they'll bring a new or revived vehicle to the market in the near future.

That’s why I’m trying to be an optimist. Anything would be better than the VC Turbo 4 / CVT crap they’ve been putting out lately.

The VQ was raspy but quite stout.

My QX70 was more reliable than my Pro. In fact the QX70 which was my only dance with Nissan was the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned.

I highly doubt the EP-BS-A would allow a V6 without cylinder deactivation just like they did for Honda/GM/RAM. Also direct injection only. Its crazy how manufacturers hide that they have cylinder deactivation. My Honda friends had no clue until I told them when they were talking how nice they have a N/A engine.

That's something I cannot believe. If your profile had a 6gen 4Runner I could have believed. 2018 TRD Pro 4Runner is like a base model TRD Offroad. There is nothing I can think of could go wrong. No JBL, No moonroof, No Toyota Safety sense, No nothing.

Eh. It is what it is. But it’s also an n = 1 for my 5th gen experience.

    most reliable-
    1 - 2014 QX70
    2 - 2001 4Runner
    3 - 2005 Mazda 6
    4 - 2015 CRV (ex GFs ride)
    5- 2016 CX5
    6 - probably the 2018 Pro

What issues have you had with your 6th Gen? It seems unusual that anyone would rate all of those vehicles more reliable.

I meant to say for new vehicles may not allow to have V6 unless it's cylinder deactivation or turbo.

    And also direct injection.

Emission laws seems pretty tight in US now. Atleast the 3.8 v6 is still allowed probably because it's direct injection only and having 9speed auto (from Mercedes + Jetco) .

It'll depend on consumer reaction at SEMA I guess. The regulatory environment is right (CAFE stifled) for it:

The 3.8L V6 in the Frontier has a timing chain driven water pump. The alternator is mounted lower than the crank pulley, so plan on yearly alternator replacement if you go off road in areas with mud.

Nissan's cash strapped situation may be its blessing in disguise if it keeps the current gen Frontier in production as long as possible and keep the entry cost lower than the turbo'ed Tacos and other competitors, work out the bugs, and pull a reverse uno on Toyota. The pricing on Tacos is out of hand. at the end of 3rd gen production I could find base trims for under 28k in my area, now it's at least 35k for poverty spec work truck trims in 2wd.

It will be cool to see what they do. I was always a fan of Xterra but it just didn't sell. Nissan in general used to make cool vehicles but have just made consistent shit for years now. I do like the new Frontier.

Fan flutter isn't a reliability issue.

All 4 pads and rotors at 36,000 miles. Bought it used so chalk that up to previous owner. But I was expecting 80k+ from the rotors. Pads I could understand.

New front suspension at 55,000 miles.

Needle bearing started making noise around 50,000 miles.

Numerous creaks and rattles from the dash, rear seat and trunk area.

Rear seat deformity and the Soft Tex was peeling off.

Another that escapes me at the moment. Just no where near as solid as the Gen 3.

QX70 needed nothing but brake pads and tires before 90,000 miles. But it was only rotors and a battery after that and nothing else but fluids before I got rid of it with 130,000 miles.

    IMG_1188.jpg

#s 3-5 could be interchangeable or pretty much a tie.

The bottom of the list would be my 1992 3000 GT VR4 and an early 80s Volvo 240 turbo sedan and an 84 GTI.

A few others fill out the middle tier and are unmentioned.

Is that a VQ? I had a slight weep from the valve cover gasket at 120k but nothing needing repair. But that was common and no real cause for concern unless you liked to keep your engine bay super shiny.

oh yeah. I replaced the plugs around 110k. Forgot about that.

I have an original G37S in the garage… My son drives it now! Did do timing chain, but it’s running strong!
Upgraded the air intake… A very fast V6, still runs great and sounds amazin…

^Yeah VQ38DE in the 2022+ Frontier. Nissan went to an electric radiator fan. The water pump is now driven by the timing chain instead of the serpentine belt. Leaking water pump would require opening the timing cover, which is a lot more work than valve cover, assuming it doesn't turn the oil into a strawberry milkshake.

My local mechanic was an ex Infiniti and Corvette specialist. He was mildly annoyed I didn’t mention I was considering selling the QX. Said he would have bought it in a jiffy cuz it was in such good shape aside from the exhaust system after 8 Maine winters.

New cats plus cat back was about $4k for OEM. I tried an ARK but it was too drony at low RPMs.

Wow! My rear pads went around 70K miles and the fronts lasted longer.

Struts? Tie rods? Just curious what failed that early.

Known issue, but not really a reliability issue.

    Not a reliability issue.

WTF did you do to the seats? Mine have been totally neglected and are fine. :notsure:

    Also, not a reliability issue.

Add the 1980's into that also. We had a 6-cylinder 1987 Nissan Maxima that was an absolutely great car. It was fast (for a 4-door sedan), very comfortable and just as reliable as all the Toyotas we've had.
