So I was refered to a Physical Therapist. The guy is a genius. He made me take off my shirt, and he immediately recognized the problem. Due to sitting too much and not a lot of physical activity, my spine has developed a slight arc in. So he gave me some exercizes to strenthen my core muscles, told me to lose 10 lbs, and he told me to work on my posture. So when I stand and walk, I push my stomache in, hips in, and push my chest out. That way my spine arc is minimized. And within a week I am feeling better. What a genius of a Physical Therapist. Though my abdomin, ribs and waist are sore because of working on this posture but my low back pain has improved like 50%. I am pretty sure this soreness will go away and it will become my second nature to have a posture like this. Try it guys, it works.

Push that stupid butt and stomach in, and push the chest out, walk like a man :)

That was drilled into my thick skull when I was 18, and went to Boot Camp. Stomach in, chest out, chin up, eye straight ahead. I don't know how many time we heard that during Drill Practise. :)

Have fun, and keep up the real man's posture!

Those are words of wisdom. If we all follow that, there would be no stupid low back pain. So many people have stupid arcs in their spine.

It is insane just how important a strong core is!! It even helps with legs believe it or not . Part of my PT for my ACL/MCL tear (torn meniscus and fractured femur as well) was tons of core. You don’t need a 6 pack, but planks and regular ab exercises will do wonders.

My PT also said I don't have to go to gym and start throwing weights around to build my core. He said just do what humans have been doing for hundreds of thousands of years, WALK!!! Walk with good posture. Muscle will get stronger automatically. Humans were not designed to sit on a chair 10 hours a day.

I don't know if anyone remembers him any longer, but there was a TV fitness instructor back in the day named Jack LaLane. Did a show every year where he'd tow a full sized Navy ship across the San Francisco Bay. He'd be in a small row boat, with a big rope to the Navy ship. I was fortunate enough to meet him in person once, when he came to MCAS Yuma for a book signing event. Kinda a "How To" book he wrote.
Really a great guy. Short little guy, like so many muscle type actors. He got in such great shape without ever touching a machine, weight, anything. All just the human body and the Earth's natural gravity resistance. His final tow across the Bay, he did a (small) Nuclear Carrier. Must have been something to his methods!
Just shows you don't need weights, machines, anything like that. Just gravity :)

    Have fun, all!

Steroid shots helped me. I had surgery 20 years ago after I blew out L4/5..excessive nerve damage. It's been an ongoing issue. One inexpensive item that helps the muscle inflammation is a TENS. I learned in 'oh so many' rehab trips.
    https://www.amazon.com/s?k=tens&crid=I4UZ44GQAMTO&sprefix=tens,aps,123&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
Cutting sugar out of the diet is another small thing to do as sugar can cause inflammation of arthritic issues. Pain meds, esp long term (Opioids) is a touchy subject. Most general doc practices are wary of prescribing any now because of the DEA and losing their license or audited. Now you have to get referred to a pain management doc to do long term prescriptions.
Steroid shots do not work for everyone, it just depends. For me, the shots put the joy back into living.

And the leading comorbidity for just about everything. The scooter industry wouldn’t have nearly the business without it.

Ahh, but without their large business intake, there wouldn't be the really nifty "off road" scooters. The ones with the triangular tracks instead of wheels. IF I ever need a scooter, I'm going after one of those!

    Have fun, gang!

Well.. I'm old enough that I'd rather live the rest of my life with little pain, than the rest of it in misery. :notsure:
My issues go well beyond lower back pain. Nothing but surgery can help.

If you don't have hypertension ask your doctor about taking low dose prednisone to help block the inflammatory process that is probably causing some of your discomfort. As in low dose I mean like 5MG in AM with breakfast. That might enable you to back off the high dose Ibuprofen.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, I suffer from Cervical, ( neck ) and lower back Stenosis. ( bone spurs pressing on my spinal cord ). That's why I said, per my Neurologist, nothing short of surgery, and it will only get worse over time.

Learn to deadlift and squat properly. Conventional deadlifts, RDL's, and light 'good mornings' as a stretch/warm up will be your best friends.

Planks, leg raises, lunges, and rotation strength core exercises also. If you need assistance virtually, I am a personal trainer and do offer online services.

Thank you Doug. Great for others here, but, as you probably know, those things would do me more harm than good at this point. Sucks gettin old. I do some core exorcises though as prescribed by my pretty little PT.:D
No twisting, lifting or lunging though.

100%, not for everyone! My response was geared more towards the OP getting out of pain, wanting to strengthen back/core and lose 10 lb lol. Best of luck and keep up with your PT!
