I may have missed it in all your posts but I have to ask - Oregon or Washington? Spent several years in different locations of Oregon and your pics bring back some fond memories.

 

Washington, very similar scenery though. We enjoy venturing into Oregon for the coast.

 

Lived awhile in Newport, Bend, and Eugene with fond memories. Both states are paradises especially for off- highway activities..

 

A few more shots of how it sits now.. I’ve liked the prinsu rack so far. With the rubber washers and rubber butyl, I have had zero issues with water leaks even after heavy rain/pressure washing. Eventually I would like to use a mounting set up like the Sherpa rack, if I can either make my own block or purchase them from Sherpa. I’m also pleased the rack generates minimal wind noise, which is typically at freeway speeds.

 

Nice work Jared! I love the look and everything you did your 4runner. I have brand new one that I will be customizing similar to yours. It's midnight black ORP all blacked out. I am just starting to research lifts and would like about 3inches. The stock suspension has a little float and sway at fast highway speeds and I would like to stiffen that up. Looking for a good quality lift. Looking to go no bigger than the 285s. Any recommendations?

 

I appreciate it! I really have liked my Dobinsons lift. I only have about 2.5 inches in the front and 2 in the rear. I like that it’s affordable, doesn’t require any maintenance, and rides nice. It has stiffened things up a bit, but the floating on the freeway may be due to your alignment.. Make sure to get UCA’s with whatever 3 inch lift you decide (without them you’re going to feel like the truck is wandering even more on the freeway).

My Dobinsons set up is currently:
Front - C59-302
Rear - C59-505 (with an added 10mm shim)

I may try and upgrade to a different spring to get the full 3 inches of lift up front.

Did you use a 10mm shim on both side of the rear, or just one?

 

Thank you! I placed a 10mm shim on both sides. At first, I was worried I would be too level. Since my front suspension has settled a bit, I’m tempted to remove both of them or at least the passenger side as it seems to have a little more height.

 

Thanks for the info. I have Dobinsons IMS with 302/505 springs going on next week, still torn on rear shim or not. I have a very minor lean right now (truck has KDSS). Your stance looks great.

 

Has your lift been installed yet? Curious to see photos if you didn’t add the shim!

 

Just installed today! I'm sure it'll settle down a bit, so keep that in mind. I also have the rear loaded up with the old suspension/UCA and other junk.

 

Looks great, the front will absolutely settle.

 

in the process of removing the 10mm shims I placed in the rear. Just a little too much rake for my liking. Will upload photos of how it sits when I’m done

 

Dobinsons 302/505 springs without the 10mm shims. Using the bottle jack to remove the rear springs makes life so much easier.

 

We received our first snow this year. It has me realizing I’m almost ready for some new tires.. 44k on the 285/70/17 KO2s. Anyone have any tire suggestions? Unsure if I’ll stick with BFG after having some balancing issues when originally installed.

 

Build looks great. If you want something more aggressive than the AT, but less than MT and performs well in wet and snowy conditions, look into the Kenda Klever RT's. They're priced very well and the guys over on the tacoma forums gives good reviews, not so much info on the 4runner forums though. Walmart seems to have the best price on them. I just got myself a set a week ago and they look great.

 

Thank you. Just took a quick peak at them. They remind me of the Goodyear Duratrac. No balancing issues? They are priced really well compared to other tires 285 and above.

 

America's tires did my balancing and I have no issues. I went with 35's too so a lot heavier than the 285s. Yes, they're priced exceptionally well. Prices will only continue to go up as these get popular. They're already slowly increasing. The 285's were 160ea before. Now I believe they're $200ish?

They come with stud holes on the tires for snowy conditions if you need to add studs for maximum grip on roads.

Great build! The shocks you used at the dobinson twin tubes shocks? Is the shock body actually larger then oem?

 

Are you staying with a 285/70r17?

I’m in the same boat, constant balancing issues with the BFG’s. A buddy of mine with a 5th gen has the Toyo AT3, and he’s had nothing but good things to say.

 

I believe the shock body is larger, I couldn’t tell you by how much… they are beefy though! I’ll grab a photo when I get home from work today.

 

I plan on jumping up to 295/70/17.. I’m guessing you were getting the steering wheel shake around 60mph? Discount tire couldn’t get it right, so I ended up going to a reputable alignment shop that was able to finally get the tires balanced.

I will check out the Toyos. I will say I’m happy with how long the KO2s have lasted

 

After 3 balance attempts I finally got it taken care of, but this last tire rotation brought it all back. 56-62 MPH only...Very strange.

295's look really good on 4Runners! I plan on jumping up in size as well, but there are no Load Range C tires in 295/70, so I think my next move will be a 285/75r17 Toyo or Nitto

You either had a bad tire in the back that was moved to the front during your rotation or one of the back tires lost its balance during the time it was back there. Have them re-balanced at the shop that got it right. If they road force balance them, ask to see the road force numbers. Make sure all tires are below 20. If there is one that is above, that's your culprit.

 

Thanks! I figured the same. Road Force got it right last time, didn't ask for the numbers but I asked for a different hub lock tool when they attach the wheel to the machine.

 

Reason to ask for the Road Force numbers is that they could have taken a bad tire from the front and put it in the back on your first go-around just to make the front feel smooth.

That or that rear tire that was moved to the front after your rotation just needs a re-balance.

Road Force numbers after everything is re-balanced will tell you the whole story.
