I bought a 4runner since Ive always owned Tacomas. But the mpg is insane. I feel like everytime i look at the fuel gauge, it goes down another ticker. Especially living in LA, gas prices are not great. I barely touch the gas and it just drinks... How do yall do this haha

What are you getting for mpgs and what did you expect to get? It’s a big heavy truck. It’s not going to get good gas mileage.

I have a 2015 Tacoma Sport 2WD as well as my 2019 4Runner ORP. They both get around 17 MPG most of the time. I choose these trucks and intend to keep them as long as I or they are alive. It is what it is.

Before buying a SUV or any vehicle for that matter most do their research so they know approximately what mileage they will be getting, I'm guessing you failed to do this?

My 2nd gen gets about 14-16 MPG. Pretty much stock. A V6 engine and its getting about the same MPG as a V8 Tundra. It is what it is, in my mind.

16 isn't bad at all, for a 4Runner. Definitely not bad at all. Its not the best fuel milage, but for a 4Runner, pretty darn good

What size are those tires? They look pretty big and aggressive. 4Runners are shipped with road oriented tires and even then it's only rated for 19 highway I think. Mine can get 21 on the freeway but for mixed driving, 16-17 is a good number.

For commuting I drive a 5 speed manual Toyota corolla, 40mpg highway, 35 combined.

Yes, true. But I normally don't think about MPG first when I hear the word 4Runner, lol. Aside from fuel economy, its great at everything else

Thanks for the offer, but I prefer to keep my 4Runner off social media for privacy reasons. :) usually pics I share I'll just share a link to my drive that I can control. Sounds like an awesome page though!

Simply put, these were never good on gas. 20 isn’t good now. I get high 15s city and rarely touch the highway. I knew this when purchasing.

My 4Runner happens to be a special edition hybrid model as well. It burns gas and oil. :D

Ownership average is 18.6 MPG, past three months around 20. (calculated)

In my previous car, my worst fuel economy numbers were hit in LA which probably contributes. (not counting towing)

Highway driving out there ranged from stop-and-go to north of 80 MPH (the former is the killer) with flooring it on short on-ramps with no shortage of steep hills. (and so many trails around didn't help)

Now I usually take it easy on the highway (at or below 75 MPH), DFW is pretty flat, coasting some to stops that I can see from a distance, having more following distance at a lower speed in heavy traffic means I can just roll more and save the brakes, etc.

I also don't have any mods or tires that would affect economy much and prefer not to idle if waiting in a lot somewhere if it's not too hot out.

Edit: I will say the Ascent that lives in LA averages worse than me typically despite being more efficient in aggregate.

How do you drive? I drive with a light foot and get around 21mpg on summer gas.
