Mounting an awning to stock early TE rack?

Anyone mount an awning to a stock early Trail Edition (10-13) rack?

I have an awning I want to put on mine, and I'm not sure of the best way to mount it. GZilla sells some trick rack mounts, but couldn't confirm that they'd work with the early TE rack.

It looks like the side rail has a channel that could accept some T nuts, but I'm not sure if that's secure enough to handle the awning. Anyone mount an awning or accessories to the rack in this way?
