Have no clue about SxS insuring. I have no idea what will happen if a SxS hit our road vehicles on the trail either. When insurance denies to insure mods that would be a nightmare.

Geico really is a shitty company. Ask any bodyshop or mechanic how they enjoy working with Geico.

Dang, didn't knew that. I was switching between Geico & Progressive since it was easy to quote and purchase.

I wonder what happens if you don't tell them, and get into an accident.

When mine got into an accident by the Toyota dealership thier / other party insurance didn't seem to care. They even got the aftermarket LED headlight bulbs which were there and everything else. Dealership didn't say anything about having aftermarket suspension. But who knows. I might have got lucky that time since dealership and the other party involved with the accident was dealing with it.

Yeah, my sister has GEICO and recently got into a minor accident. They nickel and dime the body shoppes to death, and who knows what kind of parts you're getting for your vehicle to be fixed? (used, or aftermarket). They are a terrible company, and in doing a little research, found out that they're owned by Berkshire Hathaway. That says it all!

    Cheers,

    Sean

Guess I don't understand why the ownership matters, its an insurance company, they want to take your money and not pay out, just like the others.

Don't they think like treat the customer well and do a proper fix, so you have a returning customer to make ton of money with premiums for years?

Well, there are not too many companies like that left anymore. We have USAA and have been with them for over 23 years, and luckily, they still treat us like valued members.

Just mentioned this because Berkshire Hathaway being another Warren Buffett special. They are not looking out for their customers, just his profits.

    Cheers,

this is the situation of “Dont tell if they dont ask”. Is there somewhere in you policy where you have to report mods?

if they didn’t clearly spell that out in their policy what you can and can’t do to your vehicle and explain that to you in detail in their letter, then it sounds like they have a big problem that you can get an attorney involved in.

Here’s also another thing I just remembered. If you told them about the mods and they increased your $ and took your money, they are basically agreeing to your mods and have no issue with them thus increasing your six month charge.

I work for a very large insurance company. You need to let your provider know what you modified that way it’s covered in the event of a total loss situation. If you don’t they will reimburse you for how it was configured at the time of purchase. I honestly can’t speak to GEICO or the winch situation. However. You need to think of it from an insurance company perspective. If you have a winch it may imply of roading. If the car is damaged while off roading they have to pay out. Remember if occupants are injured while off roading they have to pay out as well. Whenever you make modifications let your insurance company know. Also ask them about replacement value. Get the mods at replacement value. Otherwise the modification will be paid out at a depreciated value

Thank you for the info. This post from my FB group. My 4Runners don't have winch and too much mods. Just minor stuff like 285/70R17 tires, sliders, full skids. Just my Limited got after market suspension. Hopefully I don't get an headache in case of an accident with minor mods like this.

Yeah the Limited only got 2.25in front (I reduced from original 2.5" to 2.25") and 1.5in rear lift. Its surprising how much clearance it got compared to stock TRD Pro. Both having 285/70R17 tires.

what I find strange is that they did not have a problem accepting all his mods and jacking up his insurance premium. then six months later they decide to be like no we’re not covering you.

sounds like deceptive practice to me.
