So I brought my new to me 1995 85k miles second gen to my mechanic today to give it a once-over and just let me know his thoughts about history of it. He basically said that from what he can tell essentially everything on the truck is original and nothing major has been changed from chassis parts all the way to the engine. Fluids are all perfect and have definitely been changed regularly. One thing he noticed was that the transmission was having a bit of trouble shifting into the higher gears so he recommended that I swing by a transmission shop to have a look at it.

The other thing he said was that because everything is original his guess is that if I do start changing things that theres likely to be a lot of collateral damage in terms of having to change other parts because of things being seized since they were not changed in 30 years.

His recommendation was basically just to have the transmission looked at and then leave it alone and drive it until something has an issue. What's your take on this? Would you be doing anything preventative if you knew that a truck at this mileage is basically all original?

I was thinking at the very least I should be doing the plugs and wires. Just wanted to get your take and see if I should just relax and drive the thing or if I should be jumping on anything given what I know.

    Thanks!

    Holy heck! A 95 with 85k miles!!!!:mudding:
I’m not a mechanic, but I would wanna know how long it has been sitting and if you’re not going on any long adventures, what he says makes sense drive it around till issues begin to show itself somebody with much more experience than me or jump in. congratulations on the find and keep us posted And send a picture.

It definitely has not been sitting all these years. Its been driven a few times a week, just very short trips. Its a 1 owner car so they likely never found the need to make major repairs.

I dont plan any long trips myself, likely just local driving for now.

Surprisingly good. It seems like they applied an undercoating at some point because its flaking on certain areas. There is a bit of bubbling in one of the door jambs that I am going to get addressed at a shop tomorrow.

I would say the frame is an 8/10. Nothing structurally concerning. I may wire wheel all the flaking underneath and make a decision... Possibly a fresh coat of something underneath once I clean it up.

I'd take the " if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach. No sense messin' with something that doesn't need messin' with.

Yeah I feel the same way. I do worry though that eventually when something goes, its going to be a waterfall of repairs. I guess we'll see.

    Thanks!
