Hi! I just got back from my Labor Day trip and can’t stop raving about the modular sleeping platform I picked up from BamBeds.
    My criteria were:
    1. Nothing permanent – I’m leasing the SUV.
    2. Easy to assemble and remove – I need my back seats in daily drive.
    3. Installation on arrival – I haul a lot of camping gear and don’t want to stash it above or below the bed. To make that work, I simply drove with the boards leaned against my back seats—they took up no space at all.
I went with this platform, and it worked perfectly for me: BamBeds

[IMG] Note: this setup is for the Overtrail trim. The platform’s front legs are designed to accommodate the “dip” in the floor by the back seats.

Solo assembly took just one minute - it was super quick and simple.
No straps are required, but I experimented with them in case I ever want to drive with the platform installed while hauling my snowmobile. The built-in handle openings worked perfectly for this, as you can see in the last picture.

Why you create a profile in a 4runner forum and share some thing that is specific to GX550 Overtrail trim?

    Here's a good link that might help - https://www.lexusgxforum.com/

Also works with 4Runners. I thought to share since 4Runners and GX 550 share many similarities. There is also a dedicated 4Runner version.

$549 for a piece of wood propped up on two other pieces of wood JFC

But I guess if you drop $80k on an Overtrail what's another $600

It actually looks quite useable but I can't wrap my head around the cost when even a rudimentary craftsman like me can drag $40 in plywood out of Menards and make a similar platform...

    Oooh look, another mod.....

.....and I still can't wrap my head around people wanting to sleep in their vehicles. Back in the day if you did that crap, you were considered "A homeless person who lives in their car." Now it's considered in fashion or whatever.

    I don't get it.

P.S. To the OP: I love the new GX550 OverTrail editions. I wish I could buy one. I'm jealous of you.

    Ad?

The listing is GX550-specific and only mentions the 4Runner’s d-rings in passing and calls it the 4Runner leveling platform at the end - not consistent.

FAQ says it is very model-specific so it would be good to have a simple list of compatible vehicles + configurations on the listing/name.

I think the company reused 4Runner's description. There is a dedicated page for 4Runners. I just wanted to share it with the group. I drove 4Runners in the past until the 4 cyl disaster. I explored other brands like Hele Box but found this one by BamBeds to 100% suit my needs/requirements. Yes, I could've manufactured something similar myself but would need a cutter of some sort to cut the holes for the legs. I experimented with foldable legs but found my skills not enough to make something decent.

This is my setup, really like the Bam Bed products. I went with a drawer system, more permanent, plus more money. I’ve been sleeping in the back of my vehicles for years, great option . Fuck the naysayers, and don’t feel like a homeless person, been camping like this for years!IMG_1653.jpg IMG_1648.jpg

The other nice thing about these setups is the ability to transport something big back there
