Highly suggest you don't sell them, lower and install side steps for wife.
1st, they're paid off, having a car payment with baby on the way is not a good idea.
2nd, theses are yours and you know them, once they're gone you can't get them back (memories along).
3rd, you'll regret the decision later, guaranteed.

If you think about why, selling cars is a nesting behavior. OP is after feeling of transition, a new chapter. Selling his 'toys' is just a very costly signaling of that.

Your #1 goal should be avoiding unnecessary expenses. You don't need a minivan unless you are having triplets. If getting in and out is a problem, the cost-effective solution is stock suspension and stock size tires, where your take-off parts go to the back of the garage/barn/shed until few years down the road when this is not a big deal.

New cars are crazy expensive, used new-ish cars are crazy unreliable. You have two reliable Toyotas already, swapping them out for something else is going to be spending money to end up with something worse. Your 4th gen is more than adequate for child transportation.

Just store it. It will be 50K+ truck in 10 years. You will regret selling it.

With average new car price pushing above 50K, that 8K will be $150 off your $1000/mo car payment.

Sell the 2005 4th gen. Keep the 94 second gen. If i had 8k to spare id drive down to texas and pick it up myself. You will regret selling the 94 after all the love and energy you put in it. Store it and drive it every now and then to keep things lubricated. In 10 years it will be worth a mint

Don’t know much bout babies or selling vehicles

    However…

I can say with enthusiasm that since I joined the forums back in ‘17 I have seen:
    Regret selling it…
    Wish I hadn’t…
    I’m back!…
    Shoulda kept it…

Countless times…the amount has already slated the idea in my head to never sell it unless I’m moving onto something to replace the vehicle for vehicle for vehicles sake
Not do to outside situation…I’m not underplaying the event of your new child, congrats by the way, but like others have said, babies fit inside them…n wives

I had my first child 6 months ago. Wife use to drive a sedan so she bought a bigger car.
I'm now using her sedan for commuting and retired the 4R as a daily driver. It is now my weekend vehicle and I keep it on a trickle charger during the week.

    Keep your '94, at least!

Keep at least one of the 4Runners or you will regret it forever. I wish I never sold most of my past vehicles and motorcycles.

My 04 4Runner hauls around the wife, toddler and newborn (and 65lb dog if necessary).

Wouldn’t have it any other way. Love this rig. Got a hitch basket and Thule rooftop box if we need to go on any roadtrips and bring a bunch of stuff.

You've missed OP's post #9. He's talking about getting something different for the wife vs two paid off and known reliable vehicle.

First, bad idea having a new car payment with baby on the way. Second, anything out there now won't last past 100k without serious issues.

dadley, do you even know what is coming out of your mouth. Your first statement; OP selling his vehicle because of how expensive day care and baby formula is. Your second statement is how some dealerships can lower car payment to an acceptable number. Seriously, no dealer is going to lower car payment to $0. OP have two PAID OFF vehicles it doesn't get any cheaper than that.

Unless OP is getting a Honda Civic Hybrid there is no way saving in fuel cost can offset the car payment (I can confidently assume he ain't getting a Civic or a Prius with baby on the way). If you're talking about EV then it's even more moronic because how fast those depreciate.

It's okay to simply admit you missed a post and get on with it, instead you want to make a second statement contradicting yourself....

Do you have running boards on the 2005? My daughter loves her SR5 2019 (factory running boards) and likes the interior space and headroom when putting her infant (now toddle) into kids car seat. First a rear facing now a front facing kids seat.
Nothing wrong with a smaller lower vehicle but their rear row kids seat manuvering of seat itself in/out is hard and putting baby in/out is hard too.
The extra volume of the 4runner's inside makes handing baby so much easier.

Being more of a show vehicle/Sunday cruiser, I agree with the OP that the '94 should go as it's difficult to justify having it around.

Do whatever you feel is right but I'll share my unsolicited opinion after raising and putting 3 kids through college (last semester and last tuition payment coming up for the youngest)

    1. Kids are a blessing but they will destroy your vehicle. Be ready for this. Much easier to shrug off the havoc they can wreak on the interior and exterior.
    2. Live poor. Kids only get more expensive with time. Put your money in the right places. You will need it to work for you. New cars are not a good investment.
    3. You will need a personal outlet. The 94 is a perfect hobby. You'll be at home and close to the family while youre working on it. If you can park it in a garage, get collector car insurance on it to make it cheap to keep. Plus, you can't get in too much trouble working on a vehicle at home.

I can go on and on but my personal opinion is to keep the 4Runners.
