After much vacillation, I’ve decided to go ahead and spring for a Pro 4Runner. My fiancé LOVES the Army Green color.

    84-AE8-AD6-E263-49-C6-ABBC-312401252-C6-_623c2ea422d8e61fda5d33a1ba116c2e07ec300e.jpg

I realize most 2020s are sold, especially the Pro.

I might travel to a non-local dealership to try to find one. I live in Texas, but we’re on vacation in Colorado and Utah.

How does that work for service? Do I need to take it back to the original dealer for service work? Or can I take it to my local dealer? I assume trade-in and finance process is the same, assuming I go through TFS?

You can take it to any Toyota dealer if you’re using the free included services up to 20k miles, or anything to do with manufacturers/extended warranty. You can usually get a better interest rate through an outside financing service like a credit union unless Toyota is offering a crazy low APR.
If you find one out of your state they should be able to ship it in, on your dime of course.

Thanks so much for the info! That’s what I figured on the warranty service.

For ease of transaction, I will probably just trade-in my Tacoma (financed through TFS), and finance the 4Runner through TFS too. Then refinance through a credit union at a later date.

Good intel on shipping. But my plan is to just trade-in while on vacation. Leave Texas with a 2019 Tacoma OR, return with a 2020 4Runner Pro!

Since I recently bought a 2020SR5 Premium in white I have been noticing other 4Runners.
I think the Green you are interested in looks great, good choice.
Since I live in AZ though I like white vehicles.
No matter the color I think you'll love it.

There is one available at Beaverton Toyota, Beaverton Oregon, on the lot....Not sure of the price. I was just sent a text from one of salesman there.

The dealership I got mine at in Cookeville TN said they would be getting another one around this time. Not sure if that helps unless they could ship. Since you mentioned they’re hard to find now and if you don’t find one it might be worth checking out.

If you're not set on a Pro, the 2021 Trail editions will be available in army green and cement gray. They're basically an SR5 trim with a paint-matching cooler, so you should be able to get one for a lot cheaper than a Pro.

Thanks for the intel guys. I thought I had an Army Green Pro lined up in Utah. I was going to pick it up while we were on vacation. Unfortunately, it has a terrible dealer installed lift kit, which defeats the purpose of paying a premium for a Pro (with the Toyota installed Fox suspension). I don’t know why a dealer would mess with the suspension. They say they can take off the lift, but then I’d be worried about the knucklehead dealer tech messing with my Pro suspension. Rather than the suspension installed on the Japanese Toyota assembly line.

Dunno what I’m going to do now.
Yessir, I saw that. I’m only interested in the OR, ORP, or Pro.

What do you guys think? Should I pass on the Utah Army Green simply because it has a dealer-installed lift?

Yes you will lose money by paying for pro suspension and then lifting, BUT lots of people do lift their pros. If you decide to go with it, have smbdy look into it to make sure everything installed correctly.

Go to cargurus and plug in what you want. You should be able to find it somewhere for MSRP.

Tell them you'll buy it if they return it to factory.

Funny you should say that. The suspension that comes on the truck from the Tahara plant is actually the same as all the other trucks (SR5, OR, etc.). The Fox suspension is actually installed portside by a small task team when it arrives in North America, along with the wheels/tires and roof rack.

Even if it was factory installed, there isn't a whole lot of science to changing shocks/coil stacks (maybe a bit more finicky on KDSS trucks, which is why the Pro is not optioned with it). You'll be fine.

Dealer is willing to put suspension back to stock, but recommending I keep the installed SPC adjustable upper control arms. How do y’all feel about the quality of the SPC units? They kinda look like junk to me, but I’m no expert.

I think you will find that SPC is one of the most popular and best UCA out there. I built an Icon stage 2 lift for my 5th gen and chose the SPC over the Icon at the time. I have been very happy. They are heads and tails better than stock. You need to decide what your goal is. If you are just jonesing for the army green and planned on leaving it stock then the SPC is a substantial upgrade. At the end of the day, the SPC really doesn’t cost that much and you can always replace it down the road if you decide to upgrade everything, but I don’t think you will and most shops would say keep the SPC. I say pull the trigger and get the truck....

Pick up a stock control arm and you'll see. They're basically just stamped sheet metal with some bushings and a ball joint. Almost anything else is heavier duty.

My question is, if you spend $50k+ on a brand new 4runner pro, why not find a brand new untouched one so you don’t have any doubts? Maybe it’s just me, but I wouldn’t want to pay 50k for a truck that somebody was already messing with, lifting and later taking it off... in my humble opinion, just get a brand new untouched one! If you need to drive somewhere to pick it up, do that then.

I live in Austin, but I am in Utah on sabbatical until Sept 20.

Either way, if you could put me in contact with your rep, I would appreciate it!

For the 2021 model year the only truck that comes with the Army Green color option is the Trail Edition. Which is basically an SR5 cosmetic package. Definitely not as capable as the Off Road or Pro.

I think I’m just going to wait. Unless a stock Pro Army Green falls in my lap, I’m going to pay off my 2019 Tacoma (should be paid by April 2021), sell it for cash, and find a gently used Army Green 4Runner that someone traded in for Lunar Rock or a Tundra, or whatever. Then pay cash for it at a slightly discounted rate.
